 Genius :damnfunny

Treat the fuel gauge as a guide... use the trip meter to give you reassurance!

LOL, well done John.

Not sure if there is a "fix" to get the gauge a bit more useable...mine goes to Refill after showing 11L and from experience at that point there is usually maybe 5L (rather than 10!) truly left. Has done since new. Good enough for me really.

An elec techie will hopefully be along in a mo to explain!

It's a crap design for a level sender, tank is what? 5' long and relatively thin so a float at one end is always going to be dubious at best.

Can't be as poor as the esprit, 2 square ish tanks linked by a 1" pipe and a thin vent line, sender in one tank...
It can go from full to empty in a corner and back again and it is next to impossible to fill it as it takes so long to perculate form one tank to the other.

Does have 2 fillers, but one chap was told off at a shell station for getting his wife to fill one side while he filled the other....!

Never known one to be that far out, but they are certainly not linear. Mine takes ages to drop from full, goes slowly down to 20, then drops like a stone. As Campbell says, it is not then safe to go beyond 30 miles. N1 however will go for double that when it hits refill.

Fuel pump might be on the way out; the in tank reservoir needs to be filled for the pump to work. It might only be working on gravity feed, which at 16L in the tank might not be enough to get up fuel pressure. Or the float is bust. Or you were parked at an extreme angle (like some of the streets in Edinburgh which have really steep cambers at the edges).

Cheers,
Robin

Yep, catching Scotty up quickly. However on the Spa road trips, it coincided with re-fuelling, though a couple were leg crossing time which can make throttle, brake, clutch control interesting.

I'm starting to consider retaining the plastic water bottles which I empty down my throat increasingly quickly these days, to empty the processed materials back into in-flight an hour or so later :damnfunny

Good idea Campbell, a litre bottle with a large bore tube and wide funnel would be just the trick.
