New Xbox 360 S HDMI Cable
I've just recently been given the new Xbox 360 S along with kinect from my brother Ian. Although Microsoft are good the cheap ******** dont give you an HD AV cable (Red, Green, Blue & Red, White, Yellow). I decided that using an HDMI cable would be no problem as my TV has 2 HDMI ports but when I connected it to my TV I got nothing, a blue screen. I have tried the same on a mates TV and my brothers TV and I received the same F*** Y**, in fact the only TV that it has worked on is my dads and the only difference I can think of between TV's is that his is a full HD new and modern TV that supports 1080p where as the previous TV's are not. Surely it's not because the new Xbox S does not support below 1080p? Just now I'm borrowing a mates HD AV cable until I get my own one from home but using just the simple HDMI cable would be great.
If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Can you change the settings in it to use 720p over HDMI? Try plugging into your Dad's, look for that setting (f**k knows where, it being a microshaft product) and see if you can change it. I know you can on the PS3, so if that's the only difference, that's got to be it, right?

Cheers, but i tried that. I went to my setting and changed it to 720 tjrn tried using the hdmi cable but still a very useful blue screen. Things are never simple these days.
Re: New Xbox 360 S HDMI Cable
Have you tried resetting the display settings?
To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps:
1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn the console off.
3. Turn the console on. Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller. Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller will have the upper-left quadrant light illuminated.
4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time.
5. The Xbox Dashboard resets the display settings to the default settings, and then automatically restarts the console.

Re: New Xbox 360 S HDMI Cable
I came across this issue when pluggin a friends machine into my telly. To fix it, everytime he brings his console, we have to reset the console to basic PAL output over the normal AV cable and then choose the settings we want, and then restart. Basically same as above but we found that if you flick the HD/SD switch on the AV cable it reboots the console in RBG mode automatically.

Re: New Xbox 360 S HDMI Cable
Ye but all that is too run the xbox using the HD AV RGB cable but I'm trying to use the HDMI cable. I tried the display reset and still nothing, thanks for the advice but realistically I don't think it will work. I'm adamant that the new xbox does not support below 1080p and my tv will not run that high. Very unusual though which is why I don't think that is the cause. I just can't think of anything else.

Re: New Xbox 360 S HDMI Cable
Clearly that's not gonna be the case though. Microsoft are daft, but I'd suggest the majority of "HD" tellys in customer homes are not 1080p, so they aren't that daft... surely... Try looking for things like refresh rates before taking a grump and quitting

Re: New Xbox 360 S HDMI Cable
Could it be HDCP? The Copy protection used over HDMI. It might be that the new TV properly supports it, and the Xbox is quite happy to display onto the TV, but the older TVs might not support it and the Xbox refuses to output a signal, just in case someone 'steals' the HD content.
Not much you can do if that is the case though.

Re: New Xbox 360 S HDMI Cable
over hdmi maybe, but it outputs 720p over component.I'm adamant that the new xbox does not support below 1080p
To repeat what was said before, if you want to reset ANY video output, whether over HDMI or otherwise, follow the instructions above. You will have to use the Composite (not the Component) cable to do this.
Composite is Red White (Sound) Yellow (Video)
Component is Red White (Sound) Red Green Blue (Video)

That would seem pretty wierd...3rd Son of Tut wrote:I'm adamant that the new xbox does not support below 1080p and my tv will not run that high. Very unusual though which is why I don't think that is the cause.
I have a old 360 (at the moment) but with a HDMI port and it works happily on my 720p TV.
I'd have thought that all HD TVs would simply downscale the image as appropriate, heck even my 1st HDTV back in 2005 could take a 1080p signal and display it (via component mind) and that was before HDMI was available.
Did you try both HDMI ports on the TV?
Also, try unplugging everything else from the TV to test it, you never know what might be causing an issue like this!

Re: New Xbox 360 S HDMI Cable
Well then clearly it's not what I though it was. Yes I've tried unplugging all other cables but obviously still nothing. I think what I am going to do is buy a component cable for 10 pounds or whatever and just use that. Seems the easiest way. Thanks for all the help anyway though...much appreciated. I might eventually find out the problem but can't see it happening in the near future.
