From what i've heard, it's decent, and looks really nice in parts, not so nice in others and is maybe a little more fun than the perhaps overly clinical feeling older GTs, but doesn't seem to do much to justify the crazy development times.

Hopefully mine will be there when I get home, though Royal Mail here have been awful recently. Anyone else been getting Sunday package deliveries, or is that just here?

I got a package delivered on Sunday. Plain clothed guy, but he had a Royal Mail combi van.
Took me a bit surprise.

On the install time/space thing... I chose to just run it from disk, rather than copy to the hard-drive. So apart from the 133Mb update I had to download (10mins), I was underway within 10mins. Does it make a great deal of difference to the loading times by installing it?

Just a heads up. If you're looking at buying anything electrical soon, Currys has GT5 for £20 with a £50 spend until Saturday.

I was really looking forward to this, in fact it was one of the reasons we got a PS3 .... might wait a while to see if they get it all sorted out or just ask for it for christmas anyway :)

I've only played 20 mins and I have the same view. Hopefully it'll grow into better, otherwise it's just more of the same. It is very pretty though.

The 200 premium cars are pretty, the other 800 are just upscaled PS2 versions with about 1/5 the poly count of the premium cars. Very disappointing.

One other thing, the audio when you hit another vehicle or the environment is woeful :(

Also......unless I have just missed it, there does not seem to be any version of the Ring this time, there is the GP version however.

I hit a bug last night which wouldn't let me past the stage where you enter your profile when starting 'GT Life'. Had to google it, and found that some people are having to disconnect from PSN to get past that stage... so while I can now play on A-Spec mode, I've not got any profile set up as of yet. That sort of nonsense should have been ironed out with the length of time we've had to wait.
Also, I struggled to actually get on a server last night... although I think the same thing happened for the 1st few days after release of GT5P.

Also agree with the audio when making contact with cars... awful.
I seem to be hitting cars in front of me rather easily when I try to slip stream. I use the wide angle view (as if the camera was mounted to the front of the car)... and instintively I think I've still got a good couple of yards before having to pull out because I can see clear daylight/track between me & the car in front... but the software thinks otherwise, and I get treated to that lovely collision sound.

If the game had been release 2-3yrs ago, I think there would be less complaints. The fact that it's been delayed so often set the expectation that it was going to be perfect by the time it was released... and it's not. Hopefully they are working on updates to fix the glitches.

the guys in our office are saying the same, many objects the same graphically compared to the old version, lots of the same models used , stuff like that. Not seen it personally , not sure i want too now.

My thoughts too. I wish they had half the number of cars or less at the same level of detail. I think the ring may unlock as the game progresses? Was happy to unlock the Top Gear test track.

The thing that get's me is that most of the cutscene, non playable parts which are done within the game-engine look amazing, great lighting, very atmospheric etc. then you get into the actual game and it's like racing in Green Hill Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog.

edit: To provide balance, I am really enjoying it. Just a few frustrating "Why?!?!"s in there. It's one of those games that was never going to live up to it's expectations.

Well, lets be honest, it'd never live up to the hype. I'll be buying it and enjoying it massively for what it is (just as I have with every single GT game, including the prologues), not what someone might think it could possibly be if all their dreams came true. There was always going to be a backlash when people got their hands on an actual product.

I agree it's annoying if they simplify the lighting when you're racing (although understandable with the sort of memory overheads lots of complicated lighting must create) having seen some of the cinematics with the same engine. As long as it plays well and has a usable online lobby system (online has been taking a spanking, but that's usually the first thing that gets patched when they realise the loads in the real world) I'll be happy.

PS: Ring unlocks when you win the AMG SLS series, I read elsewhere.

Prety much agree with that IGN review. Great to drive, but sh*t everywhere else. Won't stop me enjoying the driving but it'll constantly remind you of what the game could have been. TBH I don't know why anyones remotely suprised.

Seems most of the menu lag & load time issues are down to server overloading. Patch coming this weekend:
