fuel filler cap

anyone know where I can get a new fuel filler cap cheap?

yeah I did it, I drove away with it on the boot. I'm blaming it on the missus distracting me.

I left mine in Stirling, but some nice person handed it in.

I went back as soon as I realised it, garage didnt have it .

I found half of it split into pieces about 3 miles down the road, just after a roadabout where I'd had a 'moment' of oversteer at about 40. Missus wasn't impressed by that either.

Been there, seen it, done it, but luckily always got it back, even a week later.

Still the same advice, put it on the drivers seat, if you forget to put it back on, you will sit on it and go owwww or ooohhhh, depending on life style.

oops....panic....yeah ive been close to doing this a few times too, i tend to leave the keys in the cap and place on the pump top. The idea is that i always remember i need my keys to lock the car or drive away (funny enough).
However, another problem with the cap that i have discovered, during the cold period, is that the key lock part freezes up and you can not get the darn thing off! its embarrassing when people can see you fing and blinding at the pump mumbling out loud "come on, f*cking get in you B*tch, please you know you want too….do it for daddy"

P.S. just thought at some garages they sell a temp fill cap that just plugs in. not sure if it will fit the elise, but could be an opinion in the mean time?...anyway just an idea.

I once drove 80 miles with it on the back deck, I couldn't work out what the new tap-tap-tap noise was - it was tapping on the glass behind my head trying to get in!

Bought one on elise parts - £85 but it'll be with me tomorrow.

Thanks for the offers of a loan and locking parts.

I've learned my lesson, it'll beon the seat every time now!

replacement arrived today ( great delivery from elise parts) but to be honest it looks cheap.

I've recovered the aluminium part but the internals are on the road somewhere, I'll post a photo up on sunday night and see if anyone thinks I could glue internals bakc into the original.

I thought the same Kev, the original is a big solid lump of aluminium, looks and feels great, and for me along with the MMC brakes and five spoke wheels singled out the original S1.

I seem to recall the S1 elise one was the same, or at least same fitting, as that on some kind of JEEP. Might be worth a bit of googling. I did have a look in US eBay but couldn't really see anything.

I think you're supposed to unlock / remove key / remove cap rather than leave it in (though not sure it makes a huge amount of difference). Also i'd be worried that if you do forget, you've just walked into a shop, and joined a queue to pay whilst some scrote has noticed and your full tank of fuel (along with your Lotus) is half way down the road...!

I like Tut's leave on seat idea (no, not in that way!)

I tend to stick it on the sill pad if I have the window down, or on the soft top. Probably nt the best plan either tbh...
