Love the old 300zx's. :thumbsup

...you want VFM, air con and it needs to be bullet proof for FF - it won't keep up in the twisties with the Loti but you'll still have a :D on your face - you'll pick up a good example now for under £10k no probs - if you go for a UK GT pack you'll get Brembos, leather, cruise and icy cold air con. Even go all out and stiffen it up with uprated ARBs and droplinks and bobs yer fanny :thumbsup

This looks a cracker

It does look like a cracker, I loved my 350z, did 40k miles in it in 18 months including a Euro trip and Nurburgring laps (my first time round) and had very few, if any, issues. Great drifting car and really well balanced. Great GT car for comfort, think I had mine at about 160ish on the Autobahn. :D Downsides compared to something lightweight would be fuel economy and burning the rear tyres on the first track day.

Anyway I'm just reminising so I'll move along now.

I wouldn't rule these out on the autobox factor - I had a C32AMG (same engine/gearbox) before the RS6 and it was a bloody quick car, with a fantastic box (better than the RS6's) which could be manually overridden with great effect.

TBH I disliked the side-to-side tiptronic initially but once used to it, used it to great effect 8)

That is VERY cheap... alarm bells ringing.

Could buy that, swap the engine and sell it on again for the same money.

I'd be worried about the standard drivetrain running that power also.

Explains a bit and the fact that it's in the trackday section I was wondering about that. I feel a bit better now.

What about one of these:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2409210.htm

You can pick them up for a lot less than that. Cheap as chips to run and from what I remember EVO saying, one of the best handling FWD cars ever built, a good one is surely not going to loose you anything.

Not sure if they have air con however.

Cheers for the feedback folks. Some cracking cars in this lot.

If i had the spare cash id consider buying the Barchcetta, registering it in Toms name/ France and leaving it down there with him.

S2k DC5 Z3M MX5 350Z all good shouts. Not really keen on another Hatchback unless I could sell in on afterwards. Currently loving my GT TDi and dont really want to replace it. The only reason for doing this would be to use the money to get Cayman / Elise SC.

TVR EVo 996 etc would be ace but I fear running costs would kill me.

Appreciate your thoughts folks! :thumbsup

The only car on here I reckon I would "go for" myself for this kind of trip is that BMW Z3M Coupe. Got to be perfect for all aspects of the trip shirley.

Shug is right ref the TVRs, I wouldnt even contemplate something like FF in mine and its mint and well looked after since new with a rebuild. Its not the right car for thrashing around on a TD and nowehere near as satisfying to drive than a Lotus or 7, crushing acceleration is its forte, not steering feel, handling and longevity.

A £10k tuscan is 10k for a reason, and that one needs a clutch £1200 minimum and is 50k miles with no rebuild...........so factor in for that too as it will need it sooner rather than later as its an early car. Steer well clear.

As for a genuine tuscan S for £10k :damnfunny good luck with that one.

Z3M coupe is lardy and soft, very tail happy but a good mile muncher, definetly a gt car

But expect 20mpg and heavy bills if the engine goes bang.

But surely anything remotely old & exotic listed on this thread is gonna cost if the engine goes bang?
