That London
Ann has planned* a couple of days in London for us next month, neither of us have been so we plan on doing the tower of London (because of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7vqMA_NcRU
) and the natural history museum, only there for a couple of days so I am looking for suggestions of places to stay, other things to cram in anything I should know.
TIA

Dodge all the usual tourist sh*t, head to the east- end, Brick lane/Spittalfields area, Kensington & Chelsea, Camden, and Brixton I'd say. JJ and others may have a more detailed take on it all though.
Brick Lane for curry & fixies and shops.
K & C is just generally nice.
Camden is a good/racaus night out.
Brixton, cause it's a bit different from Killie, and has Franco Manca; the best Pizza in the UK.
The only touristy places I've enjoyed in London of late have been the London Eye, Tate modern & Southbank.
Hoxton Hotel is a good bet for £/niceness, but not in the most convinient of locations.

That London
I stayed at the Hoxton hotel a few weeks ago when I was down for the darts. Really nice hotel with cool bar and restaurant and it was only £30 per person per night so definitely worth a shout. Only about 2-3 minute walk to the nearest tube station

For a cheap and "shop central" hotel, stay at the Radisson Edwardian Sussex at Marble Arch. It's round the back of Selfridges and right on Oxford Street!
For a cheap and touristy hotel stay the The Tower Gouman down at Tower Bridge. It's where I stay with work as it's ten mins from my office in the City and nice to walk around at night etc.
You can obviously get a lot cheaper hotels right outside of town but depends how central you want to be.
Places to go:
Harrods
Selfridges
Oxford Street in general
London Eye
London Tower
Tower Bridge
O2 Arena
St Pauls
...the list goes on!
Learn the tube maps - they are so easy to understand/follow - and you'll have a blast i'm sure!

Science Museum next door is worth a look around.BiggestNizzy wrote:Ann has planned* a couple of days in London for us next month, neither of us have been so we plan on doing the tower of London (because of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7vqMA_NcRU

Took SKye to the Imperial War Museum and we both enjoyed it.
London Eye is an Experience worth doing, on a nice day, for the views.
I liked wondering around Covent Garden area and watching the buskers and street acts.
Nice walks and animal wildlife in St James Park near Buckingham Palace and good chance of seeing the Horse guards if you time it right. Can easily add Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and London Eye onto a walk starting at Buckingham Palace.
Number 11 bus route passes many of the main attractions and a lot cheaper then a Tour Bus

Not done the Tower Of London since I was wee, so still on our list of things to do.
Vauxhall Astra 1.4 Sports Hatch - not as slow as my old Corsa

Re: That London
Woody's got a point but if you've never been to London before then I think you've got to do all the touristy stuff.
So London Eye is a must and you should head for the half price ticket office right in the middle of Leicester Square to pick up some cheap tickets for a West End show.
A coffee or lunch in Covent Garden is a geart place to people watch while you plan what to do next and there's some great shops around there as well. It's just a couple of stops on the tube to Camden which is great for markets - make sure you head right up Camden High Street til you get to Stables Market.
For really posh nosh, try calling The Ivy first thing in the morning as you can quite often pick up a cancellation - its booked up to a year in advance.
When booking your hotel make sure its near a tube station.
Have a great trip!
