Hi Guys,

Anyone know a Gary Thickett or Pheonix motorsport downsouth??? on the chase and could be heading down tomorrow if its a goer :D

Hi Pauline

The car has to my knowledge never been in any major bumps (there was just the one previous owner before me).

MOT, never had any issues emissions wise, no changes to ECU either. The car is pretty much as standard as they come apart from the suspension and the radiator. The exhaust is the original exhaust as well.

Mechanical Problems encountered:

· Brake line corroded about month after I purchased the car, it was replaced by Christopher Neil (Northwich) and paid for by the garage I purchased it from.

· The plastic end if the radiator split and this was replaced by the all alloy radiator to avoid it happening again.

I have not had any issues engine/head gasket wise. This was something that concerned me when I was buying an Elise as I’d heard that it was a common problem but thankfully no signs of it with mine, I have been very careful to let the engine come up to temperature before pushing on.
I’ve never been contacted about any factory recalls but when I bought the car I did have the “drip catcher” seals fitted to stop the little leaks I was experiencing with the soft-top and they definitely did the job. The car has the hardtop (purchased separately) on 90% of the time and I’ve never experienced any water issues since fitting that.

I’m sure Ollie at Phoenix Motorsports which is where I have had all my servicing and work done since I owned her wouldn’t mind chatting to you. He would probably know me as “Gary with the Blue S2”
I will give you a bell tomorrow morning if that’s ok?

I don't know Gary, but from that post he sounds genuine in pointing out any probs he has had. I do know Olly, he has helped me out a couple of times, one of the old school and has a good reputation.

Do you have a URL for the car to check the details?

I think Phoenix are (as the name says) Motorsport in general rather than Lotus, and did prep racing/ rally cars.
I remember that many years ago they had quite a good reputation but don't know anything about them now.
I would be trying to get someone with a bit of Elise knowledge to either check the car before you go to see it or take someone with you.
If you once get there and like the car, it will be really hard to walk away even if there are niggles with it so you need someone that won't be swayed by how it looks. :?

Phoenix are one of the Honda conversion garages, and don't worry, Ollie knows his Elises.

Yeh he seem like a genuine enough guy, was forthcoming when I asked him all the things I could think of on it....Tut is Olly a decent fella, it had a C service done but dont know if cam done or if he would let me know if anything major showing up on it? I was gonna give him a call in the morning after I spoke to Gaz to see if its a goer for me to head down.

Both those cars look tidy Pauline, sensible mileage esp on the blue one.

The Red one really did have your name on it, interior especially I thought!

As you know, patience will land you the one you want. Much of the fun is in the choosing :-)

How does this look?
Are you not considering this one Pauline? I have not met Will, but he has a good reputation on SELOC and buys a lot of members cars, so can not afford a bad name. Don't let the mileage put you off, it is the maintenance that counts, ie Campbell's car is now almost a 100K miles car.

Your budget is also higher than I thought, as the red one was £14.5K.

Hey tut....

Yeh, I called and left a message for Will earlier today, hes got a few in stock so left him details......yeh cost wise preferably Below the 10k for a s2 would be ideal...just little worried it will come with a whole host of faults, trying to grab anything under the 40k miles but when i seen the Ardent Red with Toyota eng i thought...bugger....i'll just need to push the extra for it, and hope to pull him back a little. Its booking under that on valuations but its a sellers market just now as just cant seem to get enough of them... dosnt leave much space for my sweet talk to try and get a little off it :(

If you know of any nice Ardent Red ones up here that are in need of a loving new home, that one would be my dream car

Couple in red on the Autotrader, Pauline - don't rule that out as a source either.

Obviously I could not recommend it Pauline from an advert, and I am not up on S2's, so maybe the others have an opinion. Doubt if you would have a chance at 9, but maybe 10. Lovely colour.

Campbell/Tut...anyone really around just now :welcome

that Red one on autotrade at Damien Lambs - just spoke to Lee at the dealership and he has got somone test driving it at 11am tomorrow morning.....im might take the chance and take a quick run to Preston to see if I can have a shot at it if he dosnt complete the sale.

Lee's a nice guy, had a long chat to him about the car and its history, he recons its a clean car...usual bits and pieces but he did mention engines little tappity on start up for around 5 mins.... Can you let me know honest opinion, do i get worried on that, I know they can be little rattly but been so long now since i was in Murrays cant really recall if this is gonna give me hyper grief...guess id need to listen to see just how bad it is but any idea's on this???

might save me a long early morning drive!
