Car buyer from Belgium
Guys, Looks as though I have just had an offer for my car from a Belgian buyer. I am assuming that if he turns up with a big bag of cash then I just treat it as a normal Sale? I have read on here I need to get a Coc???? or something? Anything else I should do, or is this simply just a cash sale as per a UK buyer?
Help? Cheers.

Make sure you agree with him all the paperwork he is expecting to receive.
You will need a Certificate of Conformity if you don't have one already - Lotus factory can issue these for a fee (£50?).
Cheers,
Robin

Re: Car buyer from Belgium
Not sure I follow. If he turns up with a bag of cash and I tell the DVLA that the car has been sold and exported is it not his problem to get the CoC if he needs this for import purposes?

I sold mine to a guy from Holland. He paid in full by BT before seeing the car. I'd explained it very thoroughly though. No CoC or anything - he was happy to take it as it was.

Same experience with my French buyer, I already had a CoC but emailed him a copy of the log book, MOT and Coc and he paid me in full 2 weeks before he came to collect it
Make sure you take him to the bank with you and deposit the cash if thats how he wants to pay you. Just in case he printed it in his shed..

Re: Car buyer from Belgium
I had a Belgian guy wanting to meet me in Birmingham and pay for the car cash. He offered more than my asking price but didnt seem keen to send a deposit or do the transaction in a bank, so I gave it a miss.

Re: Car buyer from Belgium
I filled out the Export bit of the V5 and detached it before sending the rest (signed) to be signed by the buyer on collection. I wrote a letter to the DVLA explaining that the car had been exported (sent by registered post) and included the export slip. The sale was pretty much a separate transaction. Telling the DVLA it had been exported meant that they don't care if I sell it or not, just that it's not registered in this country. Also did the export thing with the Volvo - they don't need to send you any export paperwork. Would be worth checking after a month or so on the direct.gov website though ( http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPor ... =link.next ) to check that the vehicle has the Export Marker showing as "Export" so you don't get stung the next time the road tax is due.Stumpy Nugget wrote:Not sure I follow. Edited to add I think it can either be your problem, or his. If he's happy to buy it without then fine.
I'm not sure an English CoC is any good in Europe anyway. Brits that move to Europe have paid the English company (eg Renault UK) for a CoC and then found it to be no use over here and have then had to pay Renault France for another. As an example British CoCs don't show puissance which you need over here. If there is a Lotus Office/Branch in Europe it'd be better to get it from them.

Re: Car buyer from Belgium
I'd sort the money head of time.
I had a guy turn up with 28500 in Euros for the 340R and the banks were useless. Ensure he is bringing Sterling if he must bring cash.
Upshot was I ended up a bit ahead after finally managing to get it sorted, but on the Saturday morning no-one would touch the Euro cash - they wouldnt even let me deposit it! (and i have a Euro account for work)
Hard to believe!

Re: Car buyer from Belgium
The deal is once the cash is taken by the bank and the balance shows it. Until that time its mine... Now getting interest from Germany also... If it all goes well then I will be starting another new car thread soon.
PS: Am I surely not the only person who misses their first Elise. Its not even sold yet and I miss the damn thing..

You don't care at all so long as the deal happens.
Hence you need to make sure that you have all the paperwork he expects. Otherwise he'll show up with cash and then start arguing the toss over missing paperwork and your sale may fall through.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: Car buyer from Belgium
Took your advice Robin and emailled him exactly what the situation is with paperwork etc. He is fine with the V5 and MOT only. He is driving it down south first which worries me slightly with him hitting speed cameras on the way and my name still on the V5.. Need to have a think about that.robin wrote:You don't care at all so long as the deal happens.

Simple contract of sale with a time of handover clause inserted should be fine I'd have thought?Stumpy Nugget wrote: Took your advice Robin and emailled him exactly what the situation is with paperwork etc. He is fine with the V5 and MOT only. Is it a chap called Hermes by and chance ?Stumpy Nugget wrote:Guys, Looks as though I have just had an offer for my car from a Belgian buyer. I sold my S2 this time last year and it went to Belgium. Hermes travelled to Edinburgh with the cash in £, we drove the Elise to the bank, deposited the money then did the handover. Thoroughly decent chap and by far the smoothest sale I have ever done
