Elise back from Paint.
Re: Elise back from Paint.
He would be sitting there whilst everybody passed him on the straights, especially on the power circuits.
I know it is all about cornering, but you still need the power out of the corners, and he would not be able to lap with cars that he wanted to.

I kind of agree with Tut on this. R300 may be more suited for road runs...... R500 is what I'd go fortut wrote:He would be sitting there whilst everybody passed him on the straights, especially on the power circuits.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

175 bhp Caterham with wide track suspension and 500kg not good enough for track? Are you lot smoking something?
I can easily tune it as I progress, but don't see the need at the moment.

P.s its about the corners remember

Sure, the corner speed is where it's at. However, you will see what I mean regarding the straight line speed.

Problem I found was that at trackdays in the Exige was that your not allowed to overtake in the corners. You will never find a clear track unless your car has a bit of oomph.

Re: Elise back from Paint.
R300 is 340 bhp per tonne and 4 secs to 60mph, that's not too bad in my book. That's using an un stressed 2.0l duratec which can easily be tuned to 265 bhp (ala R500). Weekends work
I don't think thats the route ill be taking though, enjoy the R300 and if I get to the point I feel the need/want more power its only a spanner session away.
I'd rather drive a R300 well than nurse an R500 thinking im the best driver in the world.
Alan
P.s and its 20k cheaper ........

How much is a built R300 Alan?

As Tony said, be aware that things you NEED, never mind want, will squeeze the price up... Paint, LSD, windscreen/roof/doors (if you're that way inclinedGourlay83 wrote:27k

Have you fully spec'd a car?Gourlay83 wrote:27k
I have details of different build options when I was spec'ing mine at the end of last year. I still have a spreadsheet of a spread of options I looked at from a 'basic' kit form R300 thru to a loaded R400. At the time a base R300 was £26,500 but that didn't include paint at £950 (non-metallic), 13"wheel option £215, and a few other nice to haves such as decal kit, trackday roll bar, heater, tonneau cover. That basic kit came to £29,420
I ended up with £5k of extras on my R400, thats before IVA at £450 etc. It's not cheap.
I'm happy to send you the spreadsheet if it's any help.
Edited to say the £29k kit didn't have an LSD (£915) or dry sump (£1285). If you're adding them to an R300 you're as well going for the R400 where they're standard.

Re: Elise back from Paint.
Thanks for the information.
I don't want doors, Windscreen or a heater. LSD and 13" a must though. Base red with a couple of decals and I'm happy.
I'm going down to Caterham to go through it all but waiting until Elise is sold, someone is coming up on Saturday to view the car.
