My car's been into Wallyford before for a fibreglass wheelarch repair and spray yonks ago. Did a great job and still looks fine now.

My experience of them was good enough that I am happy for them to respray the back early next month after some divot reversed into it and damaged the paintwork.

Like Simon says, lottery :)

Can I ask MMC to send it to Wallyford instead of Perth ?. I presume it depends on the workload going through each at the time.

I presume it's through your insurance? If so, then I think you can tell them where you want it to go. They will probably have a preferred repairer and you usually lose the right to a hire car if you don't go with their approved one. Seeing as you've got an S1 too, I guess you don't really need a hire car so you can probably take your pick. It doesn't have to be one of the JM places.

Thanks Simon. I've got an old banger to run around in as well as the S1 so a hire car isn't a necessity. Unfortunately I don't have specific experience with any repair shops so I wouldn't know where to go. As said before you hear good and bad reports about everyone so it's pot luck whether or not they'll do a good job. Doesn't it need to be a Lotus approved place though ?

I don't know about it being Lotus approved, don't see why it should make any difference as long as it was repaired to a good standard using the right parts. But it's worth asking Lotus I guess.

Just a Quicky,
Depending on age and insurer i have always fought for car to go back to lotus especially if less than 1 year old , both cars i have had fixed by them have come back better than new. I was with direct line and one crash was not my fault other definetly me showboating in wet. When they go u have to be quick and good to save them on the road not so crucial in wet as large run off, s
But try this

I had a dreadful experience with Wallyford a few years ago, but as it was a few years ago then it can probably be ignored, they might have got their act together since BUT...

I chose MMC who sent it to Wallyford to fix my car, not an insurance approved garage for me at the time but I thought I'd rather a Lotus main dealer than some back street mob who have an account with my insuruers but have never seen an Elise. My insurers let me do it.
I think this was a mistake as when I had problems with the Elise th insurers had very little sway (no leaverage on Wallyford as not an apporved garage) and I had after all picked them. As my contract was with the insurer and not Wallyford (as the insurers were picking up the bill - 20K!) I didn't have that much sway either. Very awkward.

In future i would always use an insurance approved place, your contract is with them to fix your car, if their agent (their garage) fcuk it up you can go back to your insurer (and thus the ombudsman I guess). If you pick a garage and they agree to let you use them and then they still fcuk up where does that leave you??
Where I was shouting at some muppet in a garage while calling legal helplines....

sh*t about the car by the way, good luck getting it fixed, at least you are OK

Thanks for that. I'll see what happens when I call the insurer this morning. I'm with AON who do the "Lotus Esteem" policy therefore they should have good experience with Lotus accident repairs. I would imagine that MMC is one of their approved places. Whatever happens I'll go with the insurer's recommendations I think.

I'd be tempted to borrow a trailer and take it down to Hethel and get it repaired there.

That's what I'll be doing should anything untoward happen.

Stuff it. It's going to Wallyford. If the job's not up to scratch I won't sign for it and the insurance company can deal with it. It shouldn't be this much hassle just to have your car repaired. Thanks for all of the advice anyway, I'll let you know what transpires for future reference.

Robin,

One of our problems was it took months to get it fixed during which time it was left outside. When we got it back it needed new discs as they had corroded. Dunno what you can do about that but it might be worth buying/borrowing a car cover.

(I'm not being precious - we used to keep our car outside but when you wait that long for Lotus to send the right parts it can be sat still getting wet for quite a long time...)

Bad luck mate...could've happened to any of us... :( I've just had the rear end rebuilt, two new clams and a respray after a tail end shunt - JM perth- must say they did an ok job, with a few minor niggles: scratches on the interior, car mucky, returned with faulty engine sensor, imobiliser light wonky...still deciding how mad to be, or if i can be bothered chasing them cos they're bloody miles from me... The paint doesn't look as metallic as the original i reckon...oh, and my stereo speakers seem to have mysteriously blown. Come to think of it, actually that's a p*ss poor performance..where's my solicitor, but TBH was just glad to get the damn thing back after 2 months of insurance wrangles...JM took about a month once they had the car...said Lotus were slow with spares...dunno how true...JM guys helpful on the phone right enough, and it was holiday time so they were short staffed. Hope it goes smooth for you....

another 2p:

1). Read the small print in your policy.Twice
2). Keep a record of everything that's said to whom and when
3). Get as comprehensive a set of pics of the whole car as possible
4). Deffo pursue the diesel issue
5). Keep the ridiculous amount of paperwork you'll recieve in order and handy.
6). Demand a manufacturer approved repairer. Most insurance approved repairer's won't touch it anyway as it's not a standard car. If it's getting transported around make sure the driver is aware of the low nose clearance!
7). Being nice to my broker and the independent assessor really helped.
8 . If things get silly with the insurers they do seem to get nervous at the prospect of the Ombudsman getting involved...
9). oh, and insurance companies are useless, thieving, incompetent, unhelpful ****ers, unless you are really lucky.

Mibbe obvious, but stuff I learned the hard way!
