AA P&L
AA P&L
The AA will not pay out for the recent breakdown unless I get the speedo working, which it has not for a year, so the mileage has not changed on the MOT's and service invoices from the last time.
This is probably because the N/S outer Ford Transit C/V joint does not have the toothed ring on, plus as it is bigger it sheared the sensor off anyway. I think Alan may be able to help by getting the C/V milled on the outer edge and fitting the toothed ring, but does anybody know if in the meantime there is any way of increasing the mileage on the stack?
I realise that there are people wishing to go the other way by clocking but I need to increase it for the above, and my Insurance is also due for renewal in June and I could have the same problem.
Cheers

Re: AA P&L
Don't worry tut, you're not the only one who wants to add miles to the clock.
I used to have a shed of a Peugeot 309
and had similar problems. I eventually removed the cover of the dash and wound it forward manually by however many miles I thought I had done each year so the MOT would look about right. TBH the biggest challenge was trying to guess what speed I was doing. Never got a ticket so I must have got it about right
Not much help to you though I'm afraid. Sorry.

Paging Robin - Robin to the tut phone please.
Can't see why it would be a problem to up the milage, it just needs a signal gen to make it think it was moving forward.
Anyway a veteran like yourself must only do a few hundred miles a year surely....

I have a box here that will probably allow you to dial up a certain speed and then leave it running overnight.
You would need to leave it connected to a battery charger, ignition on, engine off (the battery charger is required to stop your battery going flat while this is happening).
Then dial up 140mph and leave for 7 hours for each 1,000 miles you want to have covered.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: AA P&L
Your other option is the guy I got to fix my wonky mileage after a jump start.
He's mobile in Edinburgh so you'd probably have to bring your car down but he asked me what number I wanted and said he usually sorts the Stack units... Robin's option looks cheaper though as he charged around 100 notes.
His name is Brian on 07971299888 if it helps!

Tut,
I'll try to get the thing into a working state this weekend. I might then be able to post it up to you and have you hook it up yourself - you'll need to disconnect the wheel speed sensor and attach wires into the terminals somehow ... perhaps you can persuade Craig or one of the other handy guys to help out.
Cheers,
Robin

Re: AA P&L
I can probably manage that myself Robin, or Ian will help, Craig is away most of the time.
There is no speed sensor on at present, it was wiped out, the lead from the Stac is two wire females, so presume that yours will just plug into that.

Re: AA P&L
Believe it or not, this is the only claim that I have made on this years membership which has been running for ten months, so not exactly abusing the system which covers me for five claims in a year.
The mileage has actually nothing to do with it, I pay extra for the car as it has done over 100,000 miles, it has the service record and MOT, but they just go by the book without looking at the actual circumstances.

Re: AA P&L
OK, well you can always telephone me while you're trying to make it work ... I'll get it all together over the weekend, then (I was half thinking about giving Egor a run up north but doing some stuff with Campbell on Saturday and then we have visitors Saturday night staying over to Sunday, so wouldn't be there until Sunday afternoon ... Katie would have a heart attack if I suggested staying over with you guys again
).
Cheers,
Robin
