Re: Speed humps at Knockhill
I kept (mostly) off the high kerbs, and did not mind them at all. Not sure if everyone would agree though

Missed the sighting laps.Modena Scotland wrote:Wonder if we can fly over it.....
So the first out lap, I hit the high hump and suddenly became a motorcyclist going down duffs

Don't think flying over technique works there

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Re: Speed humps at Knockhill
Hi guys,
I know I'm not meant to be posting here (I'm Welsh and drive a Vauxhall
) but I come in search of information.....
I'm competing in this season's Time Attack and will be racing there in a few weeks (May 15th). I've never driven the track before so I've been watching some vids of the circuit and trying to learn it before I arrive. I'm also booked on a track day the day before the race with TrackScotland.
Questions....
Just a side note, I think a few of you might be familiar with my car..... It's a yellow VX220 that was crashed on one of the scottish meets a year or two back. A guy called Kevin used to own it. Said he was tearing through a lane chasing one of you guys and stacked it through a bush.... This was the car when I bought it

All fully rebuilt and tuned now. Shed some weight, gained some power, tarted her up and she's doing great so far!!

- Do any of you guys have any vids which show these new kerbs as they do not feature in any vids I've seen to date...?
What are your opinions on these kerbs now some of you have driven them?
Are any of you available on the 14th to attend the track day and maybe spend some time in car with me to teach me the lines?

Hey Jimmy
Don't worry about not having an Elise, it's not Seloc.
Just wish we were around on the day to support but as you know, we are off on the Highland Hoon with all the other VX boys. Hopefully catch you in anstruther for some chips though.

Hi Jimmy, welcome to Sottish_Elises.
It was me that Kevin was following on the way home when he went sight seeing into the field. Car was written off but did not realise that it had been rebuilt. I am not actually doing that trackday in May, but if the weather is good I might go down for a run on the back roads.
I believe I was one of the few using the new curbs at the SIDC day, they are fine as you use the correct amount and do not go too high. Quite happy if I do make it to go out with you, done over 100 track days there, but of course that means I will now get all the p*ss taking that I still do not know them.
Cheers

Dude, if you can make it, it would be great if you could come out and help me! Not sure how passenger friendly my car is, but I'm sure I can squeeze you intut wrote:Hi Jimmy, welcome to Sottish_Elises.

57-58 on a track day, never timed myself but others have.
Maybe a bit less if I was just trying for fastest lap in competition.

Re: Speed humps at Knockhill
Ah ok, so 58-59 sec is a bit ambitious for a Knockhill newb.... The class winner last season did a 56.042 but that was in a sub 750kg 380bhp S1 Exige on 888's and he was promoted to Pro Class as he was mental quick (he ended up winning Club Pro)!! My other competitors who've entered this season that raced there last season finished with 1:00.471 and 1:00.585 (all on 888's) so I NEED to get below a minute....
Would love to get under 59, will be pissed off if I don't break the minute mark!
So ScottyBobs vid is WITH the new kerbs...?

I reckon you will get below 1.00 with your spec Jimmy, but it is a technical track with short straights, so the more practice the better. Correct lines especially straightening the Chicane will pull down the tenths, plus speed coming out of the corners.
Say hello to Steve Guglielmi for me, S1 Elise with Audi engine and nitrous putting out 600+ hp. Normally comes 1st or 2nd in the Pro Class.

600bhp without using the nitrous?
Will have to look it up, should be an easy find.

Hi Jimmy,
(nice avatar pic BTW
)
TrackScotland often have an instructor available for hire at their events which would be another option. There will be plenty of other cars there on the day that you can go out as a passenger in as well to help learn the lines. I would imagine with the spec of your car, a sub minute lap should be an easily achievable target.
Steve Guglielmi isn't taking part this year, but there's plenty of photos of the car from previous seasons if you do a search
