Get a £100 quid effort until your travels?
Re: Watch lovers?
A couple of "affordable" watches I'm liking at the moment.
Bremont Martin Baker II. First saw this on Dave Hay's mate; RAF pilot. Issued once he ejected (ejection seat number etched into side of the watch ) into the North Sea.
Might actually be a repost in this thread:

IWC Aquatimer

Re: Watch lovers?
I've gone off the Bremont watches - they get a panning for just being pricey with no real 'pedigree' and they just use bargain-basement ETA movements with very minor modifications. I would like to have an MB1 (Gareth, the MB1 is the one issued post-ejection, the MB2 is for the plebs (Although they did release a very limited run of MB 1.5s)) though I don't know why - is not like the pilot was wearing it when he ejected. Their resale value is pump too.
IWC - never got any model of there's bar the Portugese, even that is difficult to justify the price-tag of.
Why not strap on a pair and buy yourself a Patek? Either that, or buy the connoisseur's Daytona:-

In that case, watch this space...excuse the pun

What I reckon is you have been bitten by the bug! I presume you're justifying this one to yourself on the basis you need a 'dress' watch? FWIW I think its big and a bit ugly, and its certainly not the money in the bank purchase your SD wasTitanium S1 111S (gla) wrote:Greg, i'm am thinking about one of these. You may well be right there. I am singularly failing to justify it to myself on any basis at all but I do fancy a watch with a leather strap. I haven’t seen one in the flesh but had assumed that the face was a similar size to my SD. I’ll have to hike down to the arcade one lunch time and see if they are big and nasty.

Re: Watch lovers?
Apologies for drift but can anyone recommend a jeweller to service Rolex watches, preferably in Glasgow area.
I can't be arsed with sending watch to Rolex, waiting for 4 months then getting a sore bum.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Watch lovers?
Wish I still had the solid gold IWC that I was presented with by the Sultan.
Do not wear a watch so gave it to my co-pilot.

I have this, its not big imo, its also not nasty.Titanium S1 111S (gla) wrote:Greg, i'm am thinking about one of these. What do you recon oh watch guru?

I think its pretty classy and fitted my criteria of leather strap dressy, and its nicely made.
Subjective thing watches, but i like how its not shouty and look at me like some of the more mainstream stuff.
Not sure about the holding value thing but a used price for one is still more than what i paid for mine new 2yr ago, but i buy watches because i like them, not as an investment.

I have read on other forums that Martin on Maryhill Road can help; probably best to call, I know Phil found him very helpful last few times he has been in.Cisco wrote:Apologies for drift but can anyone recommend a jeweller to service Rolex watches, preferably in Glasgow area.
