Full beam only working on driver side.....

Post by Jordan » Sat Jun 04, 2011 12:27 pm

When i am flashing full beam the driver side is working and the passenger side is not, Myself and Derek had a look into it and tryed a few 15amp fuses and when i flashed they just blew.....we also checked all the wireing to see if their was any loose connections and everything seemed to be in order. Still have not got to the bottom of where the problem lies.... Any help on this would be appreciated.

is it ok when you put them on full beam by pushing the stalk or does it only blow when you full it (flash)

blown fuses suggest a short somewhere. ive got a copy of the wiring diagram if it helps make more sense? i could email it.
lotus wiring diagrams are pretty easy to follow, the wiring on the car however often isnt..

Cheers

Does your S2 have driving lights
If so , disconnect the driving light on the "faulty side"

Unclip the plastic grill and unplug the driving light

They have a tendency to short out after a while where the cable enters the housing

Repair cable or replace driving light? :cheers

Thanks Mr Boag; that sounds like it could be the problem. It's got the small early type spot lamps, so we'll give that a try. It shorts out on both flash and full beam.

Derek

Tease the wires apart (cloth covered) and insulate with tape for a cheap repair.
A new driving light is around £40

FYI I replaced my busted early, but nicer, driving lights for the else parts set. The bracket is not the same and I had to get new bolts for the hangar sides. Not a massive problem if you are able to get the part that the light hangs from off but for some reason my two had been riveted and it was a nightmare getting them back on. It should have captive nuts on the back.
