Silver S2 - Shawlands

Post by cjm » Mon Jun 06, 2011 9:19 am

Do we have a new elise in Shawlands? Spotted a few streets from me, silver S2, black wheels, think its a 59 plate.

I think that'll be me - I got the car in March. There's another S2 round the corner from me, but I think that's another SE'er. Where are you in Shawlands?

Yes ,Scott has a silver 111 and is just round the corner, and I'm on Grantley Gardens.

How does the SC compare to your previous elise?

Not far away at all. I used to see a nice S1 on Grantley Gardens, but don't recall seeing it for a while. Yours before the S2?

In terms of how the SC compares, it's quite different. I've only done a couple of thousand miles so still getting used to it, but the immediate impression is that it's a lot better put together and more refined - that being said the drivers seat and some trim have just started squeaking! It heats up quicker, is (from memory) quieter on a cruise, although I don't recall my older car having as poor a turning circle...could be the memory, as I can't think why that would have changed.

My last one was a standard 2002 S2 so, as you'd expect, the performance is on a completely different level. Use of the throttle really has to be thought about before giving it some right foot! (Discovered that on the on Kingston Bridge on-ramp at West Street - in the dry, but having just gone through a puddle?!) Whilst it's great having the extra power, it does mean that it's very quick to get into licence losing territory - which did, at first, make me think that it might be just a bit too much for the road. What I mean by that is that if you're only really able to use 70% of it's potential, why go for it over an R if it's more of a road car - an R would be plenty quick enough.

With a few miles under the wheels, I'm more used to the performance and think that the extra money over an R was worth it for me. Rather than really having to work to stay on the 2nd cam, I think it can be driven quickly more "lazily"...if that makes sense. That being said you still have the benefit of it having an engine that can be rung out to the red-line if the mood suits.

I didn't take the last one on track, but fully intend to track this one. All in all, delighted with it. Oh, and its got a cup holder which is brilliant. (Joke)

Christ, what a ramble - bet you wish you hadn't asked...apologies
Mark

Thanks Scott, I think I'd like to get used to the car a bit more before I venture up to Knockhill. I'm considering a Carlimits day, as they seem to come highly recommended but that'll have to be later in the year.

Your street usually has some interesting metal on it - Tuscan, M6...it's always worth a drive-by to see what's about.

The blue S1 isn't mine, it is still about but away for some bodywork and the owner said he is planning on moving soon. I do like the idea of the SC, not having to rev it to get the power and torque as with the R, though I've never really felt a huge urge for more power I'm sure I could get used to an SC!

I haven't spotted a grey exige about but here is a grey elise s over the other side of shawlands.

I've spotted the white one a few times as well. There is also a yellow S2 further along Kilmarnock road.
