Project V6 Elise
Re: Project V6 Elise
That doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. Personally I would go for a mesh type cover similar to the new (2011 spec) Elise - but obviously bigger to clear the engine.

Re: Project V6 Elise
Sorry Paul but that engine lid looks awful!!! How about having the centre spine slightly curved for the clearance and then having black mesh both sides.
Everything else is looking
sure is

Thanks for the feedback chaps, exactly what I was after
Re: Project V6 Elise
Although don't like it....
My opinion - cut a big square out of the lid from the very top grille to the very bottom grille and replace it with 'boxed' (i.e. slightly raised) black mesh ala Exige. Cheaper, quicker and will look much better IMO.

Re: Project V6 Elise
I did not see anything wrong with the small modification you had made to the original deck - with the small angle section that raised the slats. Sure it would look pretty stock when painted.
Re: Project V6 Elise
Yep that will be the way i do this one, just looking at long term engine lids that i can have molded up for straight fitment.
Re: Project V6 Elise
Well done, looks great. I don't totally agree with the V6 thing but i'm sure your sick of hearing that. I can however appreciate the time and skill that's involved in what you've done, thanks for sharing and keep the updates coming.
When will be the first shake down on track then ?

Re: Project V6 Elise
The V6 thing is very much each to their own, we've had the countless debates on Mr2 forums for over 8 years now, some love it, some hate it, most that hate it are into their turbocharged engines and love the psht and whoosh noises. Both entirely different animals which just can't be compared... doesn't stop people trying to though!
All i will say is though that they need to be driven to be believed, many a doubter has had their opinion transformed after hearing that V6 note and feeling the torque delivery.
The first track outing is down to Kev the owner, i'm just the grease monkey

Some impressive work here. Im a V6 man myself, love them so wish you the best with getting this done.
Has anyone considered using the VAG 24v VR engine as this is a narrow bank V6? Im a VW man and its a relatively small, narrow engine with a lovely note. An R32'd Elise would be amazing.

Re: Project V6 Elise
The best thing about these V6's is that it's a totally versatile engine.
- You can take it on a touring trip and not get out of 5th gear, Over-take 90% of what's on the road and get out at the other side smiling.
- You can take it on a hoon, rev the hell out of it, rattle that exhaust note off the hills and get out at the other side grinning like an idiot.
- You can take it on track, work all the gears and slide it out of corners on the throttle, never out of the power band and get out where u started chuffed as buttons.
- You can drive it to and from work everyday and enjoy 25-30mpg.
So as long as you're not at the drag strip, or down the pub arguing over peak bhp there's not a lot more you can ask for.
Give it a chance and hold any reservations until you've seen Kev's car on the road. I'm pretty sure you'll see the whole package is something rather special to own.
