Aircon

Post by alicrozier » Thu Aug 24, 2006 1:33 pm

Latest in my aircon saga is that the fractured pipes which need replacing (now in stock) run down the sill so the car needs:

Front and rear clams off
Transported to body shop
Sill disbonded (hopefully not damaged)
Pipes fitted regassed etc.
Sill bonded on (or new sill if damaged)
Back to MMC
Front and rear clams refitted

Car will be delivered back to me on Monday but will have to go back sometime for all this work (will be picked up and delivered from Aberdeen).

Jeez - that is a scary amount of work. Hate to think what it would cost if it was out of warranty. Have MMC or Lotus given any indication if this fractured pipe thing is common, or have you just been unlucky?

Take it to the factory unless you are selling immediately after the repairs

More than likely the case...if not before.

Pretty much impossible to get the sills off intact. New sill for sure.

On the bright side Ali, at least MMC have had prior experience removing sills.

Ali - my car has got the gearbox out of it and is waiting for analysis of clutch failure followed by lengthy warranty wars with Lotus.

We may have a race - who gets their car back first (or sells it first in total disgust!!).

I was thinking of torching mine outside the factory with the press invited - what do you reckon - do both?

Cheers,
Robin
