looking to buy
hi all, im just starting my research off the now and thought this would be the best place to start, as i know how helpful forums are as im a member of a few others (scottishscoobies which did look the same as this forum till it changed a couple of days ago). im thinking of selling my subaru and going for a wee change into a elise.after a trackday experience last year i was hooked on them, well it was in an exige.
i was just looking for info on what ones to look at and what to stay away from. is there any that are more tunable ect . i think im looking at the toyota engine ones, what year and model are the toyota engines in as im struggling with the amout of models of elise the now
thank you for all help coming, sure i will have more questions soon

Re: looking to buy

From memory I think the switch from K to Yota was 05 with the 111R. K Series cars are 111S
There are also Yota S models which came out later with a lower power than the R. Not to be confused with the 03/04 S which was standard K with luxury trim.

Basically if you want Toyota power the S is 134bhp. The R is 189 and the newer SC is 220 up to about 260.
It is confusing but sure someone will be along soon with a link to a model guide.
Happy hunting.

Re: looking to buy
Welcome, you wouldn't regret swapping to an Elise.
Toyota's started Jan 2004 with the 111r model then later the S,111r renamed to R and the SC (supercharge) version.
Anything after 2005 must be Toyota, but as Rover engined model continued into 2005 (last model 111s) there is an overlap 2004 and 2005 with both engine models being produced.
Here has info on all the different models : http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Elise_model_history

Welcome along and good luck with the hunt, you'll find lots of help here.

Re: looking to buy
As for tuning - with the yotas, all you can realistically do is nail on a supercharger. There are na options available, but don't know why someone would spend the (large amounts of) coin versus a proven supercharger setup. When you get up to mid 250s horsepower, the gearbox is the weak spot.
Anyway, the Elise really isn't about straight lines - drive it right an it doesnt need tuned

Ye it will be, but I have use of my partners car so I'm not too bothered about stiff suspension ect and don't work far from my house, so I can live with anything really, and my car the now u can feel every stone just about
Re: looking to buy
To give you an idea my 135r has a breathed on engine (c160 bhp) sticky tyres and suspension mods and as a trackday day toy is way quicker than me... As a rule of thumb if you roughly double the power on the lighter Elises that's the sort of lap times you'd get in a scoobie.

Hi Fred, you'll have a lot of fun moving from a Scooby to an Elise. Not least by spending about half as much on fuel as you are used to, but for generally at least the same if not higher grin factor
Have you set a budget? That might help us narrow things down with you a litte bit!
And welcome, you should get most of the info, or pointers to it, that you need, from this lot.
