Paint Protection Film
Paint Protection Film
Hey all,
Can anyone offer any advice on the best place to get some film for the front/sides of an Exige. Just need the kit delivered, no fitting.
Cheers,
Nick

Nick, this is a friend of Paul "Father" Gibson's - http://www.rpm-morgan.co.uk/window_tinting.html
Think they might do the protection film for bodywork too. Worth enquiring and mentioning your connection, I reckon

Re: Paint Protection Film
I remember Russell from RPM well, just emailed him so waiting on a price.
Not much talk on the forum about this kind of stuff anymore, I'd still like to get it done as a respray job over here is not quite the same thing as back home.

Re: Paint Protection Film
LOL, yes, prevention rather than cure in your case - understandable.
There are still a few who get the film applied, generally after a refurb paint job obviously, and it has its place. However SE is increasingly over-run by rampant track day junkies, part-time racers, and the occasional polisher who doesn't drive very far
so the demand for protection film is probably a bit lower than "the good old days"!
And of course, the smart people buy a silver car which doesn't show up the chips...even after 93,000 miles

Oh Jeez, he'll be on here next puffing his chest out about having "a customer in Dubai", LOL!

That's the guy Mark
So you know they use Venture film for the stone protection. Now whether you can buy the kits direct or not I have no idea, indeed they may only supply the film and Protint cut it to a set pattern themselves, which IIRC, Andy said is what happens.

Re: Paint Protection Film
I used to work for Russell (RPM) and I cannot sing his praises high enough, the level of quality he demands is far higher than you would ever expect and he genuinely enjoys working in the car industry and doing things the 'right way'....his level of customer service, both pre and post sale are second to none!
The paint protection film Russell uses (if it is still the same stuff) is generally a lot thicker than most brands on the market (was able to protect paintwork from 2-3ft having an air-rifle fired at it) and is almost impossible to fit as a home-DIY job as it is very hard to shape to the car without the right tools.
If you can stretch the budget and really want it done properly give Russell a call (never accept his first price
) and let him talk to you about it.

Re: Paint Protection Film
Karl, Nick's problem is that unless Russell wants to fly out to Dubai or Nick can ship his car to Perth, fitting is going to be awkward
Great testimonial though. We spent a little time in Russell's company last year (Lisa has a Morgan itch she will have to scratch some day) and he is a true gent. Welcomed us into the workshop etc and was most patient even though clearly we are not in a position to buy one quite yet!!!
Came closer to trying to buy his Alfa 159 sportwagon mind you...

Re: Paint Protection Film
If anyone was thinking of having a stab at doing it themselves, the place I buy vinyl from does a stone guard film. I'm tempted to make some templates and cut some guards for the car, just don't seem to have the time at the moment.

Re: Paint Protection Film
Well, I've been doing a bit of recon over here and there are quite a few 'filming' places around... it's quite big over here actually as people like to customise their cars big time! Most of the companies can do any car in any colour/finish you want... matt black anyone?!
Got some quotes for just the clear stuff though and were lookin at about a grand sterling... for that they will wrap the front clam, every inch of it, do the side sills and mirrors, do a patch on the rear behind the wheel and tint all 3 windows with heat reflective stuff... essential when the average daily temp is 45 deg C!
Still got a few quotes to get so I think there are deals to be done. One company's even offering a free Blackberry Bold!

Re: Paint Protection Film
Right... taken the plunge and got the car booked in tomorrow morning for a bit of cling-wrap application! Was turning out to be too much hassle trying to get a kit then finding someone to fit it here so just went for Llumar in the end, they're doing the whole front clam/lights/splitter, side sills, air scoops, mirrors and a wee patch behind the rear wheels... managed to get a deal on two cars (a buddy here with a federal exige, surfacing here soon!)... lets hope they live up to expectations!
