Congrats Phil :thumbsup

Some nice places from my experience, surprised none have been mentioned:

http://www.dalhousiecastle.co.uk/ - stunning tbh, just south of Edinburgh;

http://www.balbirnie.co.uk/ - lovely again, can deal with bigger doos, south Fife near Glenrothes Sir;

My brother chose here, took over the whole place, was very secluded and select, and once again beautiful - http://www.craigsanquhar.com/wp/ - north Fife this time;

A friend (& fellow SEer) had his here, which is nice, if quite pricey :blackeye http://www.gleneagles.com/home

And, we got married here, which was absolutely brilliant tbh, everyone still raves about it, we had a small do, only 48 guests, so got both married, and had the soiree in the conservatory - wouldn't have changed a thing (and that's without Mrs Bee watching) :thumbsup - http://www.oldcoursehotel.co.uk/hotel/och_index.html 8)

Soooo true!!!!

Don't let the families bully you into inviting people you don't like or get on with, stick to your guns!!! I ended up sacking one of the wife's bridemaids, her cousin, that didn't go down well with her family, but I'm a stubborn bugger and didn't back down.

Unfortunately, hopefully not for you, but you soon realise that weddings bring out the worst in families and friends.

Looking back at mine last year with the venue double booking us, the wife recovering from getting her piturity gland tumour removed and the family dramas, oh and spending £20000ish (I was too scared to add everything up) I wouldn't change a thing

i've not done it, and have no plans to, but i really cannot understand the appeal in spending 20K on one day. Like Renmure, i'd do it abroad if the time comes. The sad thing is the people who spend that money when they really cant afford it, as they feel they have to keep up with the Jones's.

I got married 9 years ago ish and at the time we looked at the Great Hall at Sirling Castle. It wasn't too dear but you need to sort your own bar and stuff like that. We ended up getting married at Cameron House Hotel which was really nice and easy.
Friends of ours got married on the train platform near Grangemouth and we all went for a steam train ride! Can't remember the name if the place but it is quite well known. They even got their pic in the Sunday Post!

I had cote de ventoux wine at mine! (but in north Berwick!)
We found it better to pay corkage on wine we sourced from Lockett Bros in north Berwick. Were able to give our guests nice wine for less total cost than the hotel's basic house wine! Were quoted £26 for a £5 bottle of Rioja from the hotel initially but managed to get corkage for £8 and Chris and Graeme at Locketts got us a good deal on wine cause we were buying so much

Roman Camp, Callander, never been to a bad wedding there £ friends have all got married there and loved it, food surrounding everything perfect. Was At Brig of doon a month ago for a wedding and its nice, food was just Okay.

Mar Hall is nice was there 2weeks ago for a wedding but a few things bothered me about it PM me if you wish

I think this would make a great wedding venue but would be too small for the numbers you are thinking of http://www.thelodge-scotland.com/weddings.php

And most importantly big congratulations.

80 friends and family came out, it was cheaper to fly there form London etc than it was to fly to Scotland. All the friends and family that counted made it, no hangers on ;)

Corkage?! You dont get corkage when you do it in the vineyard 8) We were not sure when we carriages should be called on the invite, Pascal told us when the wine finished. Think they all finished up about 5ish, always helps when the bridesmaids strip the owner on the dance floor.

Really cannot recommend getting married en France enough.

PS We got married at 6pm as I wanted it under 30 degrees.
PPS French wedding cakes are traditionally profiteroles
PPPS Dont make me post photos
