Hot Marques at Knockhill on Monday 29 August

Post by PartTimer » Wed Aug 24, 2011 1:44 pm

CAR TRACK NIGHT (Hot Marques)
Mon 29th Aug 6pm - 8pm

Is this safe? I am a bit wary of Knockhill's own days. Thanks, PT

You should have no problem with HM, fair mix of cars but run along the lines of our own.

Keeping an eye on the weather ATM, will probably pop up. Lots of Red flags at the last one but no contact between anyone.

Phoned Knockhill a few mins ago and tonight is fully booked. 50 cars already on track plus 9 reserves! They have already turned away another 10 today. Might head up anyway and have a wander around :thumbsup

Turned up late without booking and they let me on. It was a bit hairy to be honest. Too many cars on track ranging from Atoms, 911s and GTRs to ratboy astras and tatty scoobies. Some well driven. Some not so well. Generally poor track etiquette. Lots of oil being dropped. And worse, 4 or 5 red flags in 90 minutes, including one guy who managed to park on top of the tyre wall at the bottom of the hill after the first corner. Not really my kind of track day. Still, at least I got away unscathed.

Sorry you didn't get a better night - sticking to SIDC days in future then?

Agree on the track etiquette last night

Everything from MkIV Escorts, Vauxhall Nova Van, Vectra, turbo'd Accord through to racing Mini's, XR2's etc. KH are definitely relaxing their criteria for the old 'Hot Marques' track nights as I remember them.

Busiest I've ever seen the pitlane at KH, and didn't know anyone :?

There were a few doing donuts and handbrake turns in the paddock at the hairpin. Just as the BTCC circus was starting to roll in! Quality..............................

Wasn't on track but walked around the perimeter, interesting to see the various lines and braking points others take from outside the car. After the sessions restarted there were a couple of long trains of 6 plus cars following each other around.

It was a MINI racer that went off at Duffus, bit of lift off oversteer, then some high speed reversing up and onto the tyre wall. Marshalls did well to clear the incident in about 15 mins

Yip SIDC is still the one to go for :thumbsup

Real shame if they've gone to the dogs. HM were always decent - not quite SIDC, but that general vein.

Seems that's gone the way of the dodo, probably making sure they fill up...

Yeah, I did one this year and haven't been back. They're not good value if it's red flaged half the time and you wear out your engine with the concrete dust.

There were a lot of people who'd never been on a track before, including 3 people sharing an Atom complete with tyre warmers !

No Blue flags in use but at the same time there were a few overtakes on the right that weren't Black flagged. Strange night.

They cancelled one or two last year due to low numbers, so it looks as if they have changed the format to let hot Hatch types in as well.

Stopped doing them some time ago as two hour sessions are a no go from here, but I never had a problem with them before, except for the red flags.

did anyone take it up with KH? I'm sure they would love the feedback, and if the standards were bad, tell them on the night.

Dont be shy - if some f**kwit it being a danger - they will want to know.

I'm afraid that I said nothing. if it had been one or two idiots, I'd have had a word. It was the organisation from KH that didn't suit me rather than one or two rogues.

I don't really have problems with KH except some marshals are very slow in using the blue flag, which can be frustrating.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.
