Yes but so was £24-25k 15 years ago when you bought your s1?campbell wrote:", I am sure it'll be well over £60k. That's a decent sized home extension for some![]()

Re: New V6 Exige pics
Nope. Not quite that low. Maybe £40k at 1999 prices? Hard to say, since property pricing / building costs and new car pricing move in different ways over time I reckon! A £25k Elise from 1999 ought to cost about £35k today at an average of 3% inflation. A Club Racer for under £30k looks remarkably good value in that light.
Anyway the sums involved are all relative to people's circumstances and priorities aren't they.
If I had a £60k sports car budget right now, I'd have my name down for a test drive already. Would I say that if I didn't already have a soft spot for Lotuses though? Hmm. Not sure. But seeing the pics in EVO today...probably yes actually

Re: New V6 Exige pics
A spend of £25k in 1999 is £32,500 after adjustment for actual rate of inflation since then, so you're dead right Campbell the current Elises at £30k +/- are indeed good value
Out of interest I reverse converted £20k in todays money back to 1996, as people often moan that they want Lotus to bring out a stripped out basic Elise at £20k ....... which equates to a 1996 launch price of £14,185.

I was also reflecting that the S1 Exige was £35k basic or therebouts in 2000 ish, so £55k basic for the "S3" model is surely not a bad effort actually?

Re: New V6 Exige pics
I think what is required is a bit of Kerry accounting.
Interest rates are low so the lump sum is an issue but not the biggest. Depreciation is the true cost of a car. So if it is going to depreciate less than a new elise club racer, then it is actually a cheaper car. Maybe that's unrealistic, but I can see the % depreciation on a more unique car being less so it's feasible that the net cost of a couple of years ownership may be similar.
I always run the numbers and if it doesn't work make some up that do..........we call this engineering a solution

I've just seen the Dual video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2BJYsgKxxs.
Surely at least one person at Lotus must think their current marketing strategy is way off the mark. Come on Graeme - sort it out.

Where did they get the actors from, the Tottenham riots?
At least they sorted them out better than the police did. Somebody actually got paid for making that advert.

Ultimately they sold them all, albeit some maybe at a loss...but look at the values, and rarity, nowfoz01 wrote:S1 exige was a sales disaster was it not?

My guess is they have an Ad agency doing this stuff.
The point seems to be, power, agility, the "Acts" being rounds in a boxing ring - I can almost hear the scope meeting!
And, finally, the car "running rings around the opposition".
Hmm - not what you would associate with Lotus as you know it - but it is changing and targeting a new audience - get used to it!!
