TT'12 (Almost Definitely)

Post by Mikie711 » Mon Oct 03, 2011 6:21 pm

Following on from the TT thread options above are for the original format TT along with options for dropping each part of it as well as changing the location entirely. A number of things are going on in the background surrounding these threads but obviously these depend greatly on the outcome of the ongoing discussions on here and also the outcome of this pole.
Will run for at least 2 weeks so spread the word :thumbsup

Also any alternative name suggestions for the weekend such as "Not tut towers '12"
definitely

If it retains it's original format and Tut doesn't mind could we keep it as Tut Towers? That way people know to expect an amazing time. I would understand however if Tut wanted to change it.

Quite happy to have Tut Towers in the title, but will get Mike to correct the Gaelic spelling of "would" :D

The cost involved in hiring a track at the weekend goes up considerably even if we could get either 2 tracks or both days would be a challenge in itself.
Knockhill for instance charged the following for April to October dates

Monday - Friday Full Day £7,500 / Half Day £4,000
Saturday Full Day £9,000 / Half Day £5,000
Sunday Full Day £12,000 / Half Day £7,000

I think you would need to use one of the normal TD companies, e.g. LoT, BaT, ET, etc., and then look for something involving Oulton Park, Anglesey, Croft, Cadwell and/or Knockhill. Something like a mini-Donkey Punch trip.

I'm not sure that's in the spirit of Tut Towers which is more of an all round Elise weekend - some track time, plenty of socializing and a few 100 miles of great roads.

Going against the grain and voting for trackday and west coast option. Think the first option is going to be a lot for someone to take on.

I think if it's to be called a TT, then we need to keep the format. It works really well, has something for everyone, which is what makes it such a great event. A two-day track thing would alienate people who aren't that into the track thing (before we even look at cost) but the track afternoon does properly set the tone and gives a beacon to start off the event. It's not like there aren't bags of track trips every year - do they get the numbers that TT got?

As for the organisation Kenny, it looks like it's being split a bit more - with Craig more into doing the Saturday night and Tut happy to look at the track/hotel/run part of the event again. If those two can work it, I don't see an issue.

Lets face it, the old boy got the right idea in the first place, there's no point f*cking about with it :)

Obviously I would prefer the first option so if a suitable venue can be found and people are happy to put the effort in, or more importantly have the time for it, then I am all for it.

not everyone likes or can afford to do the trackdays.

KH then head west. It would be good (and maybe messy) to stay in the same hotel for 2 nights? Aviemore would also be a good base?

Just my 2p
