Wow, just wow. I cannot express how dismayed I am at that. I have not done many track miles but the ones I have done were aeroscreened, and have been hit by gravel and I was so glad I had a proper Bell race helmet on with a proper visor as it took a decent chunk out of it at well over 100mph. Shudder to think what would have happened with a cheapy helmet.
To think someone was knowingly chucking stones out of the cockpit........again, Wow.

If that had happened to me I would have been throwing my fists in rage at the person's face. Who was it, and who thought it was funny?

This and the other topic this thread is about is surely just what happens when a group grows and as it gets bigger, so do the chances of people joining who are ends of a bell, and do things like cause crashes on road runs and throw stones at people on track. We all do daft things and I have had some top banter over the years with SE'ers but the above is different ballgame IMHO.

I reflected on whether a Walshy Day or similar might help Colin. Can't harm. Advanced Driving tuition? Same, but a bigger personal commitment. Something else that might help is to trade down to a relatively standard Elise, but who are we to tell him to do that! Ultimately it's an attitude of mind, and peer pressure or other influence is the only thing that's going to help there. If at all.

http://www.iam.org.uk. £139 for a full course. It will go a looong way to stopping things like this happening. Sadly, the only people who really seem to believe that are those like me who've binned it on the road, and then gone on to do the IAM course afterwards. Those who do the course before they crash will hopefully back me up on its value, but will never know if it has saved them or not. Those who crash, but don't learn anything afterwards will obviously never know either.

Best money I ever spent. Highly recommended.

Surely someone did not throw a stone form a car??? Was it a stone lodged somewhere under the car that came off?? If it did get expelled from the car by an individual, was it the driver or an unknown (inexperienced pax)???... and surely they did not consider the consequences of their actions??? I don't think anyone would knowingly do that for a laugh?

I may be way off the mark here, but this smacks of being a bit of a miss-understanding to me, which is getting out of proportion. If someone did chuck a stone out 'for a laugh', I agree that is despicable behaviour. However, I am really struggling to get my head round the possibility that a responsible adult would knowingly do that.

If a stone has intentionally been thrown from a car, that needs to be dealt with (probably in private if possible). If not, lets not turn this into a witch hunt, and try and find some positives to move forward on.

Yeah, but they aren't road runs. Very, very different things and I agree that it's sad that the road run has really died out as a forum-organised activity.

Worth splitting out Mikey's issues on track - not really applicable to this, although I agree, whoever it was would need to think about hiding quickly if most people saw that. Can't imagine anyone thought it was funny, if it's as it appears? Perhaps best taken off this thread though if people want to PM me with info...

Maybe time to let this die down now folks as all that can be said, really has been. I think the intention of the post has been served and adding any more at this stage can only really be bandwagon jumping, if we're honest.

I passed my IAM test a few months after getting my licence, aged 17. I believe that it has kept my safe over the years; the only crash that I was involved in where I had any blame was during a rally, but that's another story altogether. IAM gets my

Indeed, again, skills learned here have kept me right on a few occasions too. These events are also a great place to 'get it out your system', to unleash the inner racing driver, (well hooligan) in a safe and controlled environment.

Posted this elsewhere, but just to reiterate for our guys, the Aberdeen contingent will be carrying on with their runs, the old timers in their usual grouping, any newbies or relaxed pace drivers in their own max five group led by an experienced driver.

Agree with Campbell, not a conversation that's anything to do with this thread and it's time it was left alone - all points have been covered.

If Mikey wants to raise something separately in a new thread, that's his decision, but from PM conversation, I don't believe he thinks it would help anything. FWIW, my understanding is he believes it wasn't malicious, just stupid. Having said that, this thread isn't about trackday issues, so perhaps best to leave it as Campbell says.

I know that some of this witch burning / segregation talk is in jest, but from my perspective, knowing who has attitude problems and who is stupid enough to eject projectiles in the path of a fast moving vehicle is simply a safety issue.

Personally, I'd rather that 1 or 2 people (including myself if I do something stupid) had a bit of a bashing on the forum, than someone goes to an event all innocent, and something happens because of their lack of knowledge..

It's not about singling out someone to pick on them, it's about identifying potential risks and allowing other drivers to make their own calls.
