BMW Z4 Coupe

Post by StiflerMR2 » Wed Nov 02, 2011 10:15 am

Hey all,

A friend of mine is considering a Z4 Coupe (sadly not the M). Does anyone have any expriences of ownership? I know a few chaps have had the M version. Any feedback would be much appreciated on service costs, running costs and general day to day liveability (it'll be his daily smoke).

He claims they'll get 32mpg (the 3 litre version) which I struggle to believe :?

Cheers in advance all!

My mate has the M version, and ignoring the performance difference is a great all round car. Very well built, nice place to be inside.

It's got a very hard ride though..

I've got a Z4 Coupe.
3.0 Petrol Manual.

On a long run you will get 32mpg.

I drove mine up from Birmingham - sat at 85mph more or less the whole way with the occasional wee blast of over a ton
I worked out the mpg when I got back & it was 29 !

Not serviced it yet - its due an oil service in Jan.
Its last service was a major (insp 2)
BMW main dealer done that for the previous owner & the bill was £705 :o

Drives great - handles brilliant - really fast.
Think it does 0 to 100 in 14.5 secs. (Autocar)

I changed the runflats to Falken 452's (Soft Sports tyre)

anything else you need to know just let me know
Cheers
David

PS - Your friend can have it for £12,500 !

Thanks David,

He's looking for something with lower mileage but he has now got me thinking about them, had a quick look on PH tonight and they are cheaper than I thought they would be....think I'll maybe do some research myself now! ;)

£700 for a service sounds a bit steep, what's the cost of parts like? Discs and pads etc and what was the cost of the rubber if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for the info so far :)

I paid £372 for 4 brand new tyres ! (Camskill)
and then £12.50 x 4 for fit / balance

Bridgestone runflats are £1000 for 4

255/35/18's rear & 225/40/18's front.

Huge difference in ride / handling changing to non runflats.
The Sport model has got stiffer suspension than the SE model.

Had a quick look on Eurocarparts.
Front discs are £64 each (OEM)
and front pads are £41 (OEM)

nothing out of the ordinary.

My car is pretty well spec'd - it's got £4500 of extras on it

Just had a wee look at the £705 service bill
£240 of this was a front tyre
£90 was 6 spark plugs
£86 oil
£161 labour

Other prices on the bill were brake fluid, oil / air & pollen filters

Stiflermr2. I have one that I'd be happy to come and let you see. I bought it last winter and have covered just under 18000 in the last year. It's had an m rear bumper, quad exhaust conversion, windows tinted, carbon wrapped roof. Insude ive retrofitted cruise control and also added the cupholders( i know this sounds ridiculous but these are an absolute necessity!) It's just turned 50k and is getting MOT'd this month.
I do have the original exhaust and bumper so would put these back on if the quads weren't to your taste. It's the sport spec with leather heated seats, etc.
My average fuel consumption is currently sitting at 31mpg. I had an inspection 1 service done in February at an idependant and it cost me just under £200. BMW quoted me £385. Not sure who was quoted £700?!?'
Day to day it is a very pleasant place to be. 99% of the time if is exactly what I want but to he honest it's I little remote for my liking. I had my VX220 for early 7 years so it was always going to be a bit different!
Im in Perth so just give me a shout if you want a look.
:D

Jonny, what was involved in the retrofit cruise control ?

Did you have to send it to BMW so that you could re-programme the ECU?

I know the cowling has the space ready to cut out

Thanks Jonnymito,

I never made the test drive today (was called into work) so have yet to even sit in one! I'm back up in Dundee next weekend so was thinking about just nipping along to Kirkcaldy BMW as they have one in stock (£15K and out of my price range) but it will do to have a nose about and seat in to see if this is going to become a serious quest. Spent most of the evening so far browisng PH and Youtube though ;)
