Geordie Express (AKA DFDS Newcastle to Ijmuiden) is your answer.

Don't listen to Robin if he says drive all the way there and back in one day via the Chunnel  ;-)

Even when the Rosyth route was on the go, the journey & docking times were considered disadvantageous, IIRC. That allied to the cost means you aren't losing out really.

Just depends on how much time you have ... our chunnel journey with two drivers would have been a breeze had it not been for snow and a night in the bar with the welshman ...

Cheers,
Robin

LOL. As every you are probably right...for avoidance of doubt, people, *I* didn't spend a night in a bar with a Welshman yet even I was shouting at myself all the way down the M9 on the final leg of that journey...!

One point to note. At a conscious level, we have more time in this life than after it has ended. I try to err on the side of caution! The snow really was taking the pith however that wasn't when I wondered if my number was up, it was probably actually on the fast lane of the potholed Belgian m-ways in the monsoon rain whilst I was spending more time looking in the mirror for Tut than ahead at the rapidly deteriorating road.

When's the next one.

I have just booked the trackday at Spa on Saturday 12th November.

My plan is to leave Edinburgh Thursday night, Chunnel Friday morning, Nurburgring Friday afternoon & overnight.

Saturday down to Spa, stay somewhere around Spa Sat night, chunnel Sunday afternoon / evening and home.

So far it is me and my Dad. Just trying to figure out a plan for accommodation, as the hotels around Spa seem low on rooms, so might end up further away than I'd intended.

Anyway, feel free to join me

EDIT:
Just found this wee place near spa that has a great rep as a steakhouse/grill/bar

I really wish I could, but a combination of social engagements and Oulton Park the following weekend is going to rule me out :-(

Cheers,
Robin

Hi Jamie

Try this one, about £110 a night in may for a twin room, but it is a touch of class.
Cant make this trip, snowed under at work, but have a good one.

Yes, seen that Hotel, and quite fancy it, but thought I'd look around for pikey options.

It's looking like Hotel De la source it is though, as Le Relais de Pommard's bar & grill are closed, although pikey (twin) rooms are available at 65 Euros inc breakfast.

Just about to confirm a booking at the Burgstube in Nuerburg (will say hello at the Pistenklause ;) ) for the Friday night :)

Cool - always worth a trip to the ring, if only for food and beer.

Try to actually use the bedroom - last time I was there I didn't make it out of the bar ... if you go for a drink, pop in the Lindenhof and say hi to Renata and Majid for me (not that they'll remember us, unless you remind her that we were trying to get her to play Pink Floyd all night ;-)).

Cheers,
Robin

Robin, I have read the thread from last year's Blitzkreig for good and BAD advice

Hence the trip via the ring - my Dad is not a big drinker, so the plan is steak on stone, a couple of beers and an early night :)

My eyes are still smarting from the smog which ensued in the Pistenklaus when we were all in full-swing with the flesh-burning... Robin sat through the whole episode as well, respect ! No wonder he stayed out with Walshy all night afterwards...

SPA later this year

Post by ceejam » Thu Nov 10, 2011 2:34 pm

Well, car's nearly ready (new clutch, oil change, service the brakes)

And I'm just about packed & finished up what I need to for work.

Looking forward to it!!

When should I leave to get to the channel tunnel for 0650 tomorrow?
