Spanish Frolic

Post by Andy G » Mon Nov 14, 2011 11:33 am

After speaking to the Ape over the last few weeks, and now reading Evo this month, cant help feeling a Spanish frolic would be epic.

Some great tracks that are actually really cheap, some epic roads, and almost guaranteed good weather.

Truck the cars over and fly out??

Wish i had the time to look at this properly

When we've looked at it in the past we've concluded it's too hard to raise the committed funds to make the lorry thing work. I would speak to Jonny at BaT and ask him what his costs are (or better, what he would charge to take your cars on his truck). That will give you a really good idea of costs. No doubt those with a background in the business (I think Paul used to do some lease car business?) will have an idea about the costs too.

Even if you can get the transporter organized and paid for, you then need to thread it around 3-4 trackdays to make it sensible I think. You might be lucky and find one day but to get 3-4 you'll probably need to actually organize the track days. Speak to Golding about the costs and hassles of that!

Would love to do it - both Spanish Stelvio trips were great (even though I did write off my car on one of them :-)).

I would also be quite happy doing a Parador & Mountain run with just one track day. Then again, I would also drive my car there and back, so perhaps I am not your audience :-)

Cheers,
Robin

Of course you are my audience Robin!

I just dont have the time to drive there and back at the moment - would rather fly, get someone else to do the sh*t bit, and then maximise my time in Spain on track and on good roads :cheers

As you say though, the hassle would be significant, but it would be epic :D

I can but dream :damnfunny

There are some who have time but a little less money - you may find there are deals to be done where the Transporters could be people rather than trucks ;-)

Keep scheming Andy. It's a commonly held belief that if you visualise the outcome of a goal strongly and regularly enough, your subconscious helps you find ways to achieve it. But then, as a successful entrepreneur, you will already know that 8)

I think the transport cost was around £1200 (nearest pickup Donington)...

I'm up for a Santander ferry, couple of Spanish trackdays and a couple of days at the Ring via the alps in March/April 2012.

Smiling just thinking about it :D

Take care,

Frank

Love to too, so long as I get the pass.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

I'll pass on the ferry - too flippin' slow .. otherwise Frank's plan is good ... done the same trip the other way (minus the ring) and it was some of the best driving; tut will remember it from 2004 when Iain (zippy) and JohnD were there (not to mention lucky Gareth).

Cheers,
Robin

Will never forget it. Rivalled 2001.

Brilliant roads, driving and company, still in my prime, several get out of jail free cards, and only broke down on the final day in time for the AA to transport me home in luxury. Towing Robin up and down a mountain with a jump lead at night with John as lead scout will never be repeated.

i've been thinking about this more and more. If paul doesnt do a frolic next year, i reckon its doable using the existing client base but it'd cost a good chunk more than french frolic does.

We could even do a joint event with cars and bikes. 40 minute session for cars, 20 minute session for bikes per hour.

Sessions are gash though. Might be an option. Would have thought the frolic regulars would be well up or it though?

Worth an SE poll to gauge likely interest levels?

you dont think car drivers would be happy with 40 minutes on track per hour. i doubt the cars or driver would be able to handle much more than that.

See here for a possible track suggestion: http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... =2&t=32161
