Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.

. Farmer's autocare in Livingston are as busy as I have ever seen them.

National was full of grumpy people telling the staff how important it was that they get winter tyres. Actually felt sorry for the staff

Methinks if it www that important they would have had them before now. Did they not see we were up to page 30 on the topic!
If you're not living on the edge you're wasting too much space!

Yep, it's not as if they didn't know it was going to be winter!!! And after last year I'd say folks have only got themselves to blame if they're not prepared.
I fitted the steelies and nankangs to my wife's BMW yesterday. Was quite therapeutic strangely. Car didn't put a foot wrong today, so far mighty impressed.

I decided to get some fronts for the Golf today. Needed two tyres anyway.
Ordered in the morning, fitted in the afternoon, no hassle. Even got a surprise discount when I turned up to pay, so they were only £11 more each than my Summer Pilot Sports would have been...
1st drive home on them tonight... no traction control light flashing at all, even when I drove like a total cnut!! I think I might like these winter tyre things...

Mine went back on the Range Rover today. Again I am amazed at the difference they make even on cold damp, sometimes slightly icy, roads. Bring on the snow

The panzer wagon is utter gash on std tyres and winters are £250 a corner (gulp) they are 205/50/17 and was wondering if I could go down to 195's to try and get them cheaper.
I know bog all about tyres so any help would be appreciated.

£250 a corner for 17's!!!!!???
I assume you are looking at runflats then?
Ditch the runflats and a quick look on mytyres shows up Dunlops and Conti's for under £170, Avons for £120 and Nangkangs for £86, all fully fitted.

Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.
Farmer's had the car for the best part of the day due to the number of customers. When I collected it at 5:30pm he only charged me £20 to balance my winter wheels then swap 4 summer wheels/tyres for my winter set that I had in the boot. Got the good price because I didn't go off on one and complain about them taking so long which seemed to be the sentiment from a lot of customers yesterday. They were definitely under pressure as I guess the majority of tyre fitters were.Lazydonkey wrote:National was full of grumpy people telling the staff how important it was that they get winter tyres. Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.
My Audi's summer wheels have 225/45/17s on them, the recommendation is to fit 206/55/16s for winter tyres which is what I did on a set of new steel wheels from mytyres. Buying the smaller wheels with tyres fitted was over £100 less for me than buying the same tyre (Nokian WR D3) for the 17s so check that out before you go buying anything for your current wheels.
Re: Winter tyres. Discuss.
Absolutely, I've had mine on for about a month, I change them round about when the clocks change, it's an easy reminder. They are just so much better even just in the wet.Mikie711 wrote:Mine went back on the Range Rover today. That has got to be the most satisfying bit, overtaking 4x4's who get stuck going up gentle slopes.Mike Scib wrote:Mate got his X6 stuck on my drive today, drove round it in my 3 series. He was not impressed

Also agree pickey Dave, you should have fit 4 not 2.
