iPod Connection....

Post by Rag_It » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:06 pm

hardly technical, but now i have a car with an iPod connector i might as well try and get it working! Failing so far....

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS5 installed, when i plug the phone into the iPod lead from the Alpine unit and go to source it recognizes their is an iPod/phone, but just continues to say SEARCHING... Nothing further happens!? :scratch

Any thoughts?!

Has it got the latest (2/3 year old) conncetion standard? GF's mini has an iPod connection but only works with the older ones.

ETA: A side project of mine has been to make a nice iPad holder from some extruded alu that I have. Should make a nice music interface and satnav when/if it's done.

I'd assume so as it is a 2010 car. Tried my old iPod and no joy with that either.....

Dave,

I just tried my iPhone 3GS ( with iOS 5 ) with the Alpine in my 2010 model Exige and it's behaving in the same way as yours.
- It searches continuously then dispays "Error 1".

I normally use a 1st gen Nano in the car, and this functions perfectly, so it's probably a compatibilty problem with the later Apple software.

I'm pretty sure ( but not 100% certain ) it worked with the same iPhone 3GS before I "upgraded" to iOS 5.

Hmmm this is what i thought, does that mean that the Alpine unit may need a firmware update!?

I saved all the problems and got an ipod to 3.5 mm jack socket convertor. Plug it into earphone socket on any device.. Sorted.

Hi,

The only way I can get my iPhone 4 with iOS5 installed to work through the Ipod connection is to start the music on my phone before I plug the lead into the phone, then select Ipod on radio and it seems to work OK that way. That said mines is an 2008 Reg so it may not be the same.

Cheers

I had to do the same with my iPhone in the Elise, start playing something then plug it in and see what happens.

Problem sorted....... it was the bumper on my phone, giving a loose connection, enough that it was seeing the iPod, but not enough of a steady connection to properly sync the two.

As suspected it locks down the iPod interface, so really you have to have playlists for the car, or disconnect, chose song/Album and then reconnect. I can find how to skip tracks using the head unit, but i think i am going to have RTFM to discover all the other little shortcuts!

Over and out!

I just discovered mine works too - again it was related to a marginal connection due to the case.
It mow stops searching shortly after the boot up sequence, or almost immediately if it's already switched on.

You can select Artist/Album/Track directly from the head unit
