Evora Owners - would you recommend one?

Post by ChrisG » Sun Dec 18, 2011 8:56 pm

I realise it might well be a slightly biased view on a Lotus Forum but here goes!

I've been thinking about an Evora for a wee while but been put off by a couple of things, one being reliability.... the stories of visits back to the dealer, owners being locked out of their car etc.

So with the outlay for a 09 or 10 plate car, would any current/past owners mind giving their view. Should I buy an Evora or spend the money on a German alternative?

By the way, I'm lucky enough to look at this purchase as an addition to our X5 and Caterham plus I work away so it will be used for 3k miles per year max.

Any opinions appreciated.

Chris

Yes I would. Come from a number of Loti and this one ticks all the boxes for me. Yes there have been problems but the service you get at MMC more than makes up for it. I am very fussy with my cars niggles but at the end of the day it's the smile that I get from behind the wheel that puts all of those to the back of my head.

Definitely recommend one, chat to Brandon and you will be well impressed with the test drive. Number of different permutations but with my Evora being 2+0, sports pack, sport exhaust, close ratio box, don't there there is any option that I regret not having (but obviously depends on what you want to use it for)

Ps any question fire away asa number of Evora drivers here

Likewise, it is simply the best drivers car I have ever owned, and has proved very reliable in the year I have owned it. Mine is a 10 plate model, and as such I think most of the teething problems of the launch edition cars had been sorted.

Easy car to live with on a day to day basis, great for long runs, and also plenty of room for weekend luggage etc.

Having said that, I have now locked mine away in the garage till March, as I think I will prefer the X5 for the winter months!!

Close ratio box and sports exhaust are a must!

I have recently been privelidged enough to drive it back to back with both a Gallardo, and a 997 Carrera, and the handling and ride is better than either of them!!

How does one arrive at this conclusion? Genuinely interested.

I'd bet he's taking the Michael....

George,

Out of interest, how's the Clio 200?

I'm not sure I'd have one due to the teething problems I've heard of.
Not like their serious problems, it would just be a PITA returning to MMC (300 mile round trip).
Also, at current £35k-£40k on the used market I'd go 997.

Gareth,

A lot better now Murray's have resolved some of the niggles that Evan's Holeshaw could not identify (they are a true bunch of muppets). However it does feel a little underpowered and not as rapid as I was hoping for. Brilliant when you are really going for it on the twisties but slightly dissapointed as maybe reading into too much of the hype and my expectations were higher.

Constructive comment? Like to elaborate if you have genuine experiences, we would all love to hear?

The rear seats are tiny, though the 997 ones aren't much better

Obviously very biased (having sold the three Evora owners above their cars for a start) so I'll keep out of this one...but would echo some points - CR box, sports exhaust, 10-plate onwards if poss, for various wee upgrades. Some superb cars under £40k at the moment - PM me a colour preference and I'll keep an eye out

Graeme,

You forgot the Sports pack in the above :)

Also would definitely recommend getting the new gear linkages from the 2012 update retro fitted, my 2010 car has had it done and the gear change is a lot tighter. It did not bother me previously as my car did not really suffer from some of gearshift bad reviews but having had new cables the difference if night/day.

Yep for sure - I've seen very few Evoras without sports pack, I never specced one without from 40 cars specced, but seen a few for other dealers without the option - schoolboy error, for a grand on a new car.....
