Door Mirror

Post by cjm » Sun Jan 01, 2012 10:07 pm

Any one know the best way to dismantle the spring part of the door mirror so I can reuse the current coloured part? Someone has snapped it off and the bottom lug is broken.

If possible when you're doing the mirror, i'd be interested in a pic of the plastic colour bit coming off, I think something isn't quite sitting right on one of mine but can't picture how it looks inside. :-)

Are they the same rover 100 mirrors as the S1? If so the case pops apart along the seam so you can access the insides.
Don't think the spring bit comes seperately though, I ream to remember it's a spring washer pressed on that holds it all together.

Here are some photos of the mirror.

Managed to dismantle my mirror and need to get one from a scrappy and swap over the broken part so I don't have to get mine sprayed. Should be fun trying to get the long spring back on!!

I'll take some photos when I'm putting it all back together.

I had no problem with the spring using a mole grip, better with two of you though.

My passenger side glass seems to be a bit loose, the unit itself is tight but the glass "rattles" when the engine is idling.

How is it held into the frame ?

If you look at the first link I posted above you can see there are small clips on both halfs, the coloured back section and the glass/mirror section. The two halfs just push and clip together.

I'll check when I'm back home and see how the mirror is held in its plastic half.

The mirror glass is just clipped in place, you would have to take the mirror apart and try to either glue the mirror to the frame at a couple of points or slip something between the mirror and the frame and clips to take up any slack. Or you could replace that whole frame and glass part of the mirror as it isn't handed or coloured and is on lots of rovers.

Mine came off really easily, start at the rubber boot with a blunt plastic implement.

If the mirrors still on the car, the painted part will remain attached and the glass and frame come away.
