You think we have it bad... My Mum and dad currently pay £1.55.9 a litre in Stornoway

but to be fair the furthest you can drive is 25miles

Im thinking about going island hoping this summer

But you can do that 25 mile run 10 times in a row... Kinda one of the reason I left, nowhere to drive to that I'd not been to 100 times lol

Driving will soon be the preserve of the wealthy again, not because cars are too dear but petrol prices. It's had a huge effect on big engined cars, look at the price of a supercharged Vogue compared to the tdv6!

I seem to remember seeing figures about the reduction in traffic volumes in relation to fuel prices when they peaked last year it was a considerable drop and the amount of fuel bought( and tax raised) dropped too. I guess there is a point when people make a judgement on car usage and some will decide to use other forms of transport or not travel. Although that is probably a temporary measure as once the price is accepted at a higher level the shock that forced people onto the buses subsides and they go back to the most convenient travel - the car.
If less people use their cars- less congestion - emptier roads for us.

It's sharpened our thinking on short journeys a bit, I reckon. If that happens to more people, then not only are the least efficient types of fuel consumption going to be reduced, but air quality and traffic risk to schoolkids etc are all going to improve. Good things. Who'd have thought it.

Oh and we do look at the train a lot more for longer distance stuff, however for a family of four it's generally not very good VFM at all compared to fuel and running costs, and of course there are convenience and practicality issues if, say, taking the bikes etc. There are exceptions, like Super Advance fares with Virgin West Coast, which suits very nicely when packing Mum and the kids off to the outlaws in Cumbria

I bet we are only a few years away from £2 a litre............... If that.

Other forms of transport? Biggest issue for me is I actually enjoy driving my car. I like taking my journey at my pace, in the comfort/privacy of my own car - not to mention it's the most convenient way 99% of the time, as it's parked 3 seconds from my front door. I fear that no matter what the price, it won't change a whole lot.

petrol in Hamilton up to 134.9 for the first time.....last week it was only 132.9

Filled the A4 this morning with 63L, and that will be £90.03 Sir Only saving grace was I had the 15p per off per L from Morrissons so actually paid £80.58. Wife did have to spend over £60 in shopping though so that's £140 in a matter of days rattling through their tills.

Is that at the Shell garage? My last 3 fills have each been 1p more per litre than time before - looks like pattern will continue tonight.
