Thanks for the reply mate and I can tell you that your car is going to a good home – it truly does look like an awesome car.vxc wrote:congrats on the buy mate! its been very well looked after, i unfortunately have done with this car as i did with my last exige and parked it in the garage and never used it, dont think i will ever learn.
in total over two Exige S cars i have covered 6000 miles between them!
i will need to go back to buying cheap cars and feel good about thrashing than buying a 28k car and worrying about damaging it or something trivial
I bought my previous Exige at 17k miles before selling it at 40k miles!

Re: Big thanks to Murrays in Edin again
Another huge
to Craig and the technical team at Murray's.
Everything from receiving the car from AA after hours to picking up from Brandon today has been top notch.
They managed to fit the car in and quickly diagnose the problem, negotiate with AA P&L to agree to the fix and get the work done despite being busy. Also fixed my towing bar, service her (oo-er!) and get her all cleaned up all with regular updates as to progress and cost.
All in all top notch service once again. Thanks guys
Ali

Re: Big thanks to Murrays in Edin again
A big thank you to Craig and the team for sorting out my evora fitting the exhaust and getting the new gear cables installed for me:-)
Re: Big thanks to Murrays in Edin again
Erm, my turn.
I just checked, and UJI hasn't had a stamp in the book at Murray since 2002. 10 years. A lot has changed in that time. It's been to F1 in Newcastle and a couple of independents since then, but since 2005 all servicing was by me and benefactors like Robin or Fd or Lawrence or McKean. So Craig's charm lured me to book the S1 in for an "A" service last week, and it got a comprehensive going-over.
The bill is only 3 pages long, and the advisories run to just 1 page. Clearly this is testament to the TLC lavished by several unpaid experts (you know who you are) in those 10 years, however for the magic number to still be the £269 I was quoted at the outset is frankly madness. I only hope the JM Group FD doesn't read this forum.
My reasons for trying Murray out after a long layoff were many-fold:
- this thread
- better organised Service Dept
- a free wash (car, not me)
- after 10 years' "best endeavours" servicing, the opportunity to let the experienced techs have a good look over the car
- excuse to gossip with Craig
- excuse to gossip with Brandon
- lack of time to service the car myself this year
- Campaganaza looming
- etc...
All I can say is that, if you have an Elise of any sort, and it's not been near an official Lotus dealer for a couple of years or more, and you hope to sell it for strong money or keep it long term, it's worth talking to Craig.
Thanks Craig and team. Looking forward to a fun summer (and hopefully a smooth MOT in 6 weeks
)
Campbell
PS - if your service book has run out of space (as mine had, at 96k+ miles), Craig may be able to set up a new one with extra bonus dealer stamps in it too

Glad your MMC experiance was fab Campbell
last time I was in MMC for an nose, I happened to ask for a quote for a part for the 160 knowing full well the price I could get said part elsewhere....twice the price from MMC
which had to be ordered etc I declined

Re: Big thanks to Murrays in Edin again
Yep, agreed noops, prices from dealers are always going to be higher, certainly was the case with the recent work I had done. This, in my humble, was ofset by the convenience of Craig taking care of everything, including negotiating with the AA. Agree, however, that if working on the car ones self that lotus branded parts or even generic parts sourced through any dealer will have a mark-up on it.
Guess not dissimilar to buying a bottle of wine from a restaurant?!
Cheers

Re: Big thanks to Murrays in Edin again
Noops, it may be worth speaking to Craig and see what he can sort out for you. I know he has been very helpful at keeping my parts bills down. Although they have had to order parts in for my car (which is to be expected on a model they stopped making 12+ years ago), the parts came in very quickly. At the end of the day the main dealer parts prices are likely to be a bit higher as they are genuine parts, but I like the peace of mind that brings to know my car has the right parts on it.

Re: Big thanks to Murrays in Edin again
Without wishing to turn this into an extended debate (this is the MMC feedback thread, after all), it's worth pointing out that Craig has encouraged me to identify prices/sources for any parts on the "advisories" list they gave me, and if I can provide the parts cheaper than MMC can, they are happy to fit regardless.
Some dealers are not comfortable with this or may decline to do it at all, so it's just another bit of flexibility to consider when making the buying decision.
It's also worth remembering that Murray get sight of Lotus' "fire sale" lists from time to time and you may be surprised what they can pick up for lowly S1s etc. I have various bits in my garage which I've collected for serious discounts by buying in this way, with Craig's help / tip-off in the past.
OK end of feedback.
Car still looking and driving great this morning tho
Lisa snaffled the keys and took it to work before I could protest!

Sorry for the thread drift.
We will have to have a talk at the weekend and come up with a plan to stop this happening
Kathy has been enjoying the Elise lately too Campbell.campbell wrote:Lisa snaffled the keys and took it to work before I could protest!

Campbell,
I've been toying with the idea of send the old girl back in as a 10th birthday present.
Your posting may have just swayed my mind (and I'll point Mandy in this direction too)
Would be nice to know that she's had a proper looking over and hopefully in good shape for another 10+ years of ownership.

what's even more remarkable is that it's more than ten years ago - I can still remember your 4 minute test drive to buy it....mac wrote:Campbell,

Re: Big thanks to Murrays in Edin again
Again another big thank you to Craig and team for another service well done.
Didn't manage to see or speak to Craig directly but as usual a couple of small faults where
noted and fixed, Craig gave me a quick call to let me know (after he had already fixed them) and explain what had
been done in the service, even though he was preoccupied.. with more serious family matters.
Then proceeded to call back next day to go into detail of work done and apologize!!!
for being distracted and the lack of info. given on the previous phone call.
Very professional work by Craig and team as said before and can only highly recommend them if you need your car cared for.
Oh! and price was spot on as well.
