I could be wrong but am sure the 135 for sale was my old one. I sold to a chap who was on here who then sold it to ED. it had 35k on the clock when I sold it. I had the seats re covered at courbou put the S2 suspension on it and lots of other things. Am sure if you peal the black stone gard you will find some of the paint coming of which was a results of me trying to change the clear ones as they were going yellow but when the pain came of a little I left it on so maybe that's why the owner has put a black one on there.
Dom is correct about it leaving the factory with around 145 BHP. One of the best cars I have owned.

Yes, hence it needs rebuilds.

well you could put the 2zz-ge yota engine in it
..i think it would go well and wouldn't need the rebuilds..slightly heavier engine, i know but still ..na' bad.

Why are 135's held in such high regard to the similarly powerful, 111s. Are they lighter or better spec'd?

I was just being curious as my K was 200bhp which (in caterham circles) is roughly the point where anything more requires regular refresh/rebuilds...

Caterham Exhaust is a lot less restrictive (cos it can just poke out the side of the car!). Rarity and with a few more individual touches (seat pads and the silver roll bar FI).
I think the 135 came first though, which may be whyghly prized at the time.

As well as what Woody says, 135s have the "simpler" non-VVC mech engine albeit that mech seems to have been broadly reliable actually?
Other spec diffs with 111S included better seat bolsters, different front grille (!), slightly wider rims (but same tyres, really) and a small tail spoiler. And CR box as standard.
In many respects the S1 VVC 111S is a hidden gem and I imagine you'd love one of those if you found a tidy one. In many ways they are more accessible, as there were only 100 Sport 135s made. You just missed Ross' red one actually!

The 135 had a different head to the standard car, with the VVC inlet plenum (but not VVC head), and larger throttle body.
There were 50 135's made in 1998 (some registered in 1999), but they had a few issues with the head. In 1999 Lotus built a further 35, solving the head issues, calling it the Sport 135'99.
The 1998 cars had the same wheels as standard cars. The '99 cars had the OZ racing 6 spoke wheels, that were slightly wider at the rear - therefore needing the extra wheel arch spats.
All 135's have standard front grills, (it was the 111s that had the different grill). The wheels used on the 135'99 were also used on the 111s.
135's were not fitted with a tail spoiler... that was the 111s and 160 (which had extra risers on it).
135's had different seat pads, an alcantara covered steering wheel, driving lights, head light covers, smoked front indicator lenses and a bespoke colour called "quick silver", which is basically silver, with a very subtle blue tint.
Edit; AFAIK 135's also came with a sport's cat.
