Need an Elise
Hi, just registered as looking to get my first Elise S1.
Is there anywhere that is good to find a car, I have been looking on Ebay, Autotrader, Pistonheads, but there aren't many for sale in scotland, in the right spec/price. I have only been to see one car, and it was pretty rough, which was reflected in the price.

A guy at work is selling his, should be up for sale & at reasonable money next week. It's silver.... And I've not really had a proper look at it or seen it in at all in the last 18 months, so can't comment on anything else.

Hi Woody
Can you pass on his details, or give him mine, I am just south of Edinburgh.
Cheers Doug

Welcome to SE
Pistonheads and autotrader are probably your best bet, and keep an eye on the classifieds on here. Happy hunting!

That's been for sale there for quite a while, has it not?.... suggests something wrong / over priced? A decent S1 at the right spec and price does not stay for sale for very long IMHO.scottishselise wrote:There is a yellow s1 at Carnoustie sports carsthesurfbus wrote:Hi Woody

Re: Need an Elise
It's been up for a month, started off at £9,995 and is now down to £8,495. I had a quick look around it a couple weeks back and it needs new boots and it did have a couple of spider cracks on the rear clam but seemed generally in good order (as much as a quick visual check can give you mind!). Stick on number plate and green sun strip I am not a fan off though.
If I was after an S1 I think I'd much rather buy from an owner than a garage. Allows you to get much more history and feel for how it's been maintained by speaking to the owner than a garage that has taken it as P/X or what ever.
Having said that, Gordon, who owns Carnoustie Sports Cars, made me detail everything I had done to my VX when I sold it to him as well as giving him every receipt and invoice I had so that he had a full knowledge base for selling it on - if you gave him a call I'm sure he'd let you know as much about it as he could.
For reference; I have zero affiliation with Gordon or Carnoustie Sports Cars but I have used him for Sale or Return for a couple of my cars in the past and I always though he was a top bloke who told it like it was
I'd also not limit yourself to just looking at cars in Scotland, a trip down south could turn up a better car at a better price, it could be counter productive to limit yourself to cars up here.
Oh and welcome and good luck with the hunt!

Re: Need an Elise
Thanks for your input, I did see that one from Carnoustie, however I really don't like that colour especially with the contrasting Green roof and seats (and I have just sold a yellow car and fancy a change).
I went and saw the Ruby Red one on Autotrader for £7k, it was a total shed, and would have needed a lot of money spent on it do bring it up to a decent standard.
I am looking UK wide, and there are a few ones I like the look of, but I don't have much spare time to go on wasted trips round the country.

No problem, I'm not a massive fan of yellow myself
This one is for sale in Tayside and is (imo) the pick of the S1's being a 135 Sport:

It was discussed fairly in depth on the forum a week back:

Re: Need an Elise
That was a good read, but I have a few questions?
Do they all suffer from shot blasting to the paint on the front end, and to the front of the rear arches?
What is considered a high mileage on an Elise?
Does the hardtop make a big difference or is the soft top fine?

Re: Need an Elise
Shot blasting is common - most of them get resprays from time to time to correct that (or they get crashed, which fixes it too).
100,000 miles would be high mileage for an S1 - a couple of our members are up at that sort of mileage but many do less than 4K/year I think.
Hard top appears to fetch money and yet only really useful to people who plan to commute in their S1. All of them leak one way or another

RE: Need an Elise
This seems as good a time as any to say that, with a heavy heart, I will be selling my S1 in the very near future (about the next 4 weeks).
My wife is pregnant with our first baby, and I move house in the next week to somewhere a lot bigger and therefore more expensive than our current flat. When she is on maternity leave we will need the extra money for sure, so I have reluctantly agreed to sell.
There are a couple of things im sorting before I sell, seems only fair. If you want to know any more info, drop me a pm. I'll be putting up a post in the classified section towards the end of July.
Cheers
