only thing that would have me risk life, limb, and a little spinal fluid for would be a 916. Yup, there's quicker machines out there, but that's the only one (think nick cage and that farking Mustang in 'Gone in 60 seconds)

Know what you mean Greg.
When I was wee me and my bro used to sit out on the main road and watch the bikers heading past toward largs. We could tell from about a mile away when the 916`s were coming.
I have never ridden a bike nor do I really want to, but a lottery win would see a 916 in my garage just to start it up and listen to it.

I would love to ride a bike but I'm worried about the fecking eejits that now drive our roads. (And not just Lotus owners!

) the fcuknuckles that drive SUVs to schools and pull out on me in the liz
I now have quite alot of respect for the crash structure on the Liz having seen one fold a 4" metal signpost in 2 and barely be damaged! but a bike would end up bit soft squishy me getting terminally mangled.
Still thinking about a commuting bike but still very aprehesive....

Sure it`d be great if you knew what you were doing, but the real prospect of how easily I could kill myself is enough to put me off.

I am not a fan of a look-at-and-polish brigade, more Goodwood-revival-thrash-the-tits-off-the-vintage-bike/car person

in fairness - the 916 was not a bike to be driven daily! you can't see the dials unless in a racing crouch, and the radiator had issues if the front ever got lifted. Plus.. if you put the power on too much - you'd end up in a hedge.
I say all that having never ridden one!

The Desmosedici looks fantatstic......and the new 1098 to replace the 999 is supposed to be based on the styling of it so it should be a proper job...
I gave up my bike when I got my first Elise, lasted three months and to this day if I had to give up one of them it woud be the Exige that would go first.
The 90 degree v twin in the ducati has a sound all of its own and with the termi pipes on it, it is awsome. I see nothing wrong with buying one just to look at and listen to
