As Sanjoy said, if you get chance, compare performance.

When I bought my first Elise, a B&C 140, and knew sod all about sod all, I played with a Lotus Carlton as we left Mintlaw together. I backed off around 135, whereas he went on to 165+

Got to know him, and went out again a couple of times, but all he was interested in was straight line speed, so the relationship did not last.

However what I do know, is that it was a very fast car, in fact the fastest four door saloon at the time, and will go down as a classic.

Might just be a chavved up Carlton though, at which point I'll sneak out and cut the oil feed to the turbo...

Thanks guys!
More obviously, the body kit was specific to the car as well. Standard Carltons had that flat-topped rear arch, where the big arches on the Lotus cars were wheel-hugging. Lotus badge on the front and rear too...

That said, I daresay a couple of sad twats would have kitted standard carltons... Bast bet - lift the bonnet and look for the big red chargecoolers 8)
I remember years (15-ish) ago looking at a replica based on a 3000GSi which was pretty good btw, correct body kit etc, but I was young & daft then....

More recently, Anniesland Trade Centre had an Opel version (LHD) which was rougher than a badger's arse but not as rough as the salesman who lifted the bonnet for me & said "fcuking mental, eh?"

Never really looked at them in the same light after that...

I did a bit of research cos I fancied one for a while and it turns out that many parts are no longer available (brakes for a start) so need much commitment to own & run correctly - therefore already classic status IMHO :D

Original run was 1100, but they couldn't sell the last 150 in the recession (list was £48k!)
Any idea what happened to those? I'm having a small fantasy about 150 brand new Lotus Carltons sitting around on an abandoned airstrip waiting to go to auction... 8)

More than likely they were dismantled for spares. :(
Best Regards,

Steve.

Recall Evo ran a uber saloon special and the Carlton was invited along as the Dadd yfrom the old days. Straight drag it did very well, think Mk1 GTI against current hot hatches.
