We reduced our staff by 75% and all took a 25 % pay cut over the last 4 years but in the end even that wasn't enough and the bank, which had been propping up the company, decided to withdraw its support. It wasn't entirely unexpected, we had been struggling for a while but still, the speed at which things came to an end came as a shock. I am unemployed for the first time since I was 13. After the initial shock in the office the atmosphere was rather bizarre, it was almost a feeling of relief. Like an old relative who had been suffering from a terminal disease suddenly popping their clogs, you're sad but relieved they are at peace. Weird.
Felt sorry for the high heid yin though, he was distraught, very much a broken man when he had to tell us the news.
Had been thinking about moving for a while but decided I may as well stick it out to the end for the redundancy payment. Luckily I foresaw this coming and have been putting money away for a while so financially I am ok and the cars will be here for a while yet

I decided yesterday to get as drunk as humanly possible (which I did) and spend the next day watching Jeremy Kyle and then sleeping in the afternoon, cos that's what unemployed people do (which I didn't) in the end I updated my CV and applied to a few jobs.
Anyway, wasn't going to post this but thought I might as well, you never know. If anyone is aware of a position for a highly talented Engineer please let me know.
