Nlow if you really believe in your honda, why not defend it thoughtfully, intelligently, and honestly?
perhaps you might start by giving the weight of your engine as fitted by comparison to the k engine weight you removed?
Re: Why don't I like Honda K20's
Never weighed the engines side be side Simon, but you know the weight of my S/C Honda S1, 765kgs.

Mine is a 1999, and weighed in (with a full tank of fuel), and roof off (and out of the car) at 749kg.

Aye no probs mate. Ill just nip home from work remove my engine and weigh it to win an arguement with a complete stranger thats forgotten to take his tabletsKingK_series wrote:mikeyb13 wrote:Did your Section just run out today?

Yes and I appreciate your contribution Tut, but I think car weights before and after are misleading, mostly because of the exhaust weight, but other parets too.
To be clear, if I ever went to the trouble of installiung an engine of any other manufacture other than Rover, I would be inclined to modify the car [for instance exhaust] and I am sure most =do
EQUALLY when I install a KINGK engine I make the same changes [ie exhaust] and that skewes the comparisoon.
what is clear as a comparison, is the weight of a honda k20 vs weight of a stock K series or one of mine. The difference is not the much quoted 15kg
or more usefully the weight of a K20A2,box, starter, alternator, shafts, mounts and exhaust vs a Kseries,PG1, alternator, starter, mounts and s/s exhaust. the difference is not 15kg
I believe this is important because it does make an enormous difference to the balance of the car, but more importantly it is symptomatic of the impoverished argument around the K20 vs K.

I can illustrate it for you..... if you like,
the question is if I do will you take it on board that this has been a misinformed argument, and perhaps refrain from some of the less necessary personal comments you have made today?
Re: Why don't I like Honda K20's
Simon, noone cares if a bare K20 engine weighs 40kg more than a bare K series and it is completely pointless in the discussion over weight differences of a conversion.KingK_series wrote:So any Hondaistas brave enough yet? to admit their alone engine is 40 odd kg heavier than a stock Rover K series and 45/50kg heavier as an install over a stock Rover K/ PG1/starter and alternator????????
I'll try this just once more for you to ignore....
I weighed my car before and after its N/A K20 conversion and NOTHING else was changed. The weight difference was 15kg. FACT!!!! That is the weight difference and is so small it is negligible when it comes to the handling or performance of the car. Its time to bang a different drum Simon.

I think you are really wrong there, maybe the people who have businesses installing K20 conversions - and I was recently told that includes you, is that correct? - and maybe some of those who have paid for conversions want to believe it is just 15kg and not important.
But there are plenty of people I meet who are probably more experienced than you[?} possibly[?} that think it is very important. One such is Adrian Newey, for whom I built an engine. Another is Olly at Pheonix Motorsports who did Honda conversions, another is Stu who posts on here.... and many many more.
But never mind that - if you accept that the k20 is better than 40kg heavier than a stock K how on earth do you explain your 15kg difference, - are you trying to say that the Rover PG1 is 25kg heavier than a Honda 's box?
or are you saying the Rover starter motor is 25kg heavier than the Honda's? or maybe it's the alternator?
I am really curious

No, I don't do Honda conversions. You can make as many suppositions as you like, I've stated the facts!

then help me out...... if the stock K is 40oddkg lighter than a K20A2 how on earth do you get 15kg difference
- seriously - ARE you saying PG1 is 25kg heavier than a Honda K20 box?
I really really am fascinated to learn your explanation!

Re: Why don't I like Honda K20's
I agree that it is more than 15kg, at least with my car. Reckon more like 30kg, ie:- the original N3 TUT would probably have been around 735kgs, and I doubt that you would get it less than that with a bog standard Jan '77 car, which mine was.
