Help - Atom advice
Hi Gents
Looking for some advice from a more knowledgable detailer about how to protect and keep the Atom! I spoke to Mckean, but he looked lost, and then fell asleep
Its a bit of a git to clean, and the Scottish roads & climate dont help it.
Its just arrived and I'd like to try and keep it looking lovely for as long as poss.
Best plan, and products to look at?

Andy, I would think probably a good hard wax would be best, put good coat on and it makes it much easier to clean down. I had a play about with a machine polisher I have on my cars, done a few steps and put nice coat of wax and the difference is very noticeable during cleaning as any dirt, grime just falls off. I now am in the habit if I take the Elise out a run, I just literally rinse the car with a hose which takes most of the grime off then a quick wipe with a mitt, and then dry it and put it back. Seems to keep it nice and clean and takes 10-15mins. Either that or you will be going down the film coating route.
I know there are various waxes in the market which are applicable to the required results. You would likely be looking for a hard, long lasting wax so you put it on and forget about it with the duration between coats as long as possible.
P.s. more than happy to help you out. Embarrassing to admit but I really enjoy seeing he results after cleaning a car.

How long should it take to clean a car even without the wax? I mean I always aim for getting three done in under an hour. (And that includes putting away the pressure washer etc)s29ttc wrote:Seems to keep it nice and clean and takes 10-15mins.

Rinse body to get rid of lose dirt.
Clean wheels with 2 bucket method.
Rinse wheels & car.
Wash with 2 bucket method and lambswool mit and detailing brush for appropriate areas.
Rinse.
Pat dry with towel...sometimes a blower
But I don't wash it that often. Normally wax it up every 3 months.

Eeeerrrrmmmmm.... I have a bit of a confession to make I have actually taken to polishing the car before races
After loosing a place in Brands Hatch 2010 by 0.008s i decided that i may need all the help i can get.... And Deaser from the RA body shop usually comes to events and helps.
In my defense, i did beat Andrew Barbour by 0.054s at Brands this year
We use Kleers Aero surface preparation kit - http://www.kleers.com/product.php?xProd=62&xSec=1
It basically stops dirt, bugs, rubber etc sticking to the car. After a days racing in the wet in Brands Hatch this year it was still remarkably clean
When it does get a bit dirty, we give it a quick wipe down with Kleers Race Ready Spray - http://www.kleers.com/product.php?xProd=56&xSec=1
It is very quick and easy.... Girlfriend usually gets the whole car done in 5mins
I am very ashamed of myself...... But look at the shiny shiny
