Excellent Progress Mike
We will now have to wait in trepidation for the next chapter and how you solve the "Mysterious Manifold!!

The previous owner probably bought it in good faith as well
Probably various versions to meet differing emission laws? :cheers

As regards drilling, it looks as if a couple of the holes overlap so would this cause a problem, or could you fill the originals?

Agreed - might be challenging - that style of gasket won't work with oval/slotted holes - you may need to fill in the original holes before drilling new ones :-(

If you just remove the charcoal canister and gubbins I would expect to get a MIL - however, if you leave the vac solenoid hooked up and then vent the tank to atmosphere and block off the vac tube that goes from manifold to solenoid valve then I think the ECU won't know there is no canister. You might be able to split the solenoid out of the canister so you can just tie wrap it up with the loom connector somewhere safe.

Cheers,
Robin

Mike

A spot of googling whilst waiting for my Lorne Sausage Roll..................... :D

If you add a the letter F to the part number, a search brings up this?

The Lotus parts and service manual

http://www.lotussport.org/manuals/Parts ... eExige.pdf

Page 274 of the PDF file - You appear to have a North American spec manifold for 2004 onwards Elise and Exige without A/C

The manifold that you state as the correct one....... appears to be readily available for £80

Apologies if you have already worked this out

:cheers

Your probably right without filling the holes the gasket won't seal. After I posted that was back having a look at it and was concerned about it sealing properly give that it is supercharged. Looks like a new manifold required  .

Now that is strange, the part number is for a drive belt and not a manifold, it's the belt that's £80 a inlet manifold is £197.16 + vat. Just find it odd that the cast in part number is obviously wrong but all the other parts for the charger are correct.

As for the charcoal canister, well it turns out that there is a whole bunch of engine fault codes for this, P0441 - P0456 in fact all cover problems with the evaporative emission control system to give it it's proper name and it will indeed illuminate the MIL light.Looking at the available space in the engine bay area I can only guess that the Exige one is smaller and locate in a completely different place.

Hi Mike,

P0441 requires a vacuum switch - I guess that's embedded in the canister? If so then realistically the canister has to remain attached to the manifold vacuum pipe. At a push you could blank off the tank side connection, but even then it looks like the operation (timing) of the vacuum switch will be noticeably different - e.g. takes longer to open/close due to reduced volume of apparent fuel tank.

So you are probably right - the canister will have to stay and you'll have to find somewhere else to house it ... shame.

Cheers,
Robin

Had a quick look at Neil's exige and the canister is re-located in the wheel arch. The exige canister doesn't look a different size so will re-locate mine to the same place. Hoses may be an issue but will work something out. Also heard back from the guy that I got the SC from and he is as mystified as I am but is going to send me the correct manifold. Top bloke :thumbsup

That was a short four weeks.

How much work is involved in changing the crankshaft pulley?

It has been a quick month. Don't need to change it tut, it's a common part between the 111r, Exige S and the 2-11.

Sorry MiKe, it was for N3, about time that I changed the JDM pulley for the larger UK type.

Cheers

I have no idea tut, depends how much room there is between the pulley and chassis, also would need to lock the crankshaft, flywheel somehow as that bolt will be tight.

Quick update on the soft top added.

Mike, do you still have your old upper rear wishbone available / handy - I was trying to find out if they are the same dimensionally as my VX220?

Also, did you get your wishbones painted / powder coated locally? If so, how much roughly?

Ross, still have the wishbone in the garage. The fronts cost £40 to have blasted with a bunch of other stuff and the rears were free. Painted them myself with smoothrite and a coat of clear lacquer.
