You should have received a written agreement that you were giving permission for them to take ownership and auction the car. I was told after mine went then I could have insisted that it was repaired, they also classed it as a CAT D when it should have been a CAT C. I received a cheque stating that even if I cashed it, that did not mean that I had accepted the figure and could still contest it.
Having a tidy round the living room just now, and it seems that Mrs Peter76 failed to tell me about all the mail that had arrived while I was away.

Cheque for car in hand! Gap insurance not required it would seem. Quite impressed, as I'd already been taking note of similar cars to start haggling with them! Could have paid that into the bank this morning.

After a pal of mine text me after seeing a classifield for some S1 parts from a car which was being broken for spares....
one thing let to another, and well, we ended up buying a nearly complete car some of you may recognise...
the story continues over on NORLOG on this thread

I don't know how long it has been up in Scotland, or if the weather and roads up there actually contributed to it, but the wishbones...were rusty rusty.
To answer your query on the other forum, the car had been used throughout the year for past 6 years in sunny Scotland...

That would explain it then. It's only 3 years older than my S2, but had significantly more rust on wishbone area.
Anyway, it just means the end result will be even more satisfying, when you see the transformation

I didn't realise they'd removed the engine too before you got it! How long before you think it'll see the road/track? Looking forward to seeing the end result.

That is the Question Peter. thought it would be a bit quicker than it has been. That said, it is impossible to get into any more pieces than it already is. Mainly cleaning & preping all the removed parts, ready for reasembly. I will be very disapointed if not on the road this year, but also want to get things right, as there is no reason to get in on the road so soon.

Found the sticking throttle issue- it was a frayed throttle cable , new one ordered.
This adds to the national debt which is now huge & well over budget.
Nearly ready to start re assembly

I suspected my adjustment to the throttle linkage didn't account for 8000 RPM. Perhaps 1-2000, but I never really tested it. The throttle cable didn't retract all the way back so I made a slight adjustment to allow it to do so, but this was never done with the engine running (baby sleeping, and didn't want to cop the wrath of the wife). Some good work you guys are doing there.

I take it the 'new' front clam was in better condition than the original. Looking at the before pics, I wasn't so sure?

Peter I'm not sure now re the clam. The problem with the original one is that the salvage guys just cut around all the mounting points, hence they are missing. The new (cough) blue clam was complete but not in as good order . Now that we have something to use as a template , we can probably get this repaired at some stage.
