It's half term coming up and my son has asked if I'd take him go karting while we're off. Before I use it as the carrot for behavoiral modification, I need to check what is available.
While I expect he's still quite young for this, he's very competent in an electric kart. Theres a JF2 at his grandparents that will do 7-8mph and he' has good control of that.
Has any one successfully taken they're young kids to somewhere where they can actaully drive the cart? What are the usual age limits?

After having a look round I can't find anything that does karting for children under 8 years old.
You can buy a kart designed for a five year old, but theres no public access for kids of this age it seems.

Yep, age 8 for Gladsmuir out by Tranent. After my youngest girl showed some skills in passing all the boys at one of those electric bike things at a birthday party I took her along to try karts but she was too young. In fact iirc they don't even offer arrive and drive to try it when they turn 8,instead you have to sign up for a half day session.

Mate took his wee boy across to a track in Cambuslang for his first karting experience. Supposedly it was pretty tame but quiet and got good instruction from the guys.

Age wise, thats the thing. He's almost 5, so not even close for the normal indoor regs. Tame karts are exactly what I'm looking for, nothing too racey. Its the idea of him being of control of his own car that he's after. Will check out the cambuslang idea.

took my wee one to noahs ark in perth last month. they have to be 3 years or older for pax laps but the helmets for kids are massive and really heavy and i think put her off the experience.
ultimately i think it was more for me rather than for her......

Might be better trying to do a quad bike experience rather than karting?
Could try speaking to Ian at cambuslang outdoor karting - he might be able to offer a trial in the bambino karts?
