My new practical car for winter

After a relatively successful first season competing in the sprint and hillclimb championships in a Clio 182, I've decided to go for something a bit more dedicated for next year. So, just in time for winter, I've just bought the least practical car I've ever owned. It's an ex Academy race series Caterham Roadsport with a 1.6 Rover K Series engine.

It's what you might call basic, it's got 4 wheels, an engine and a roof and that's pretty much it - not even a heater What it does have is everything I wanted for a competition car - full roll cage, Tillett seats, lowered drivers side floor and wide track front suspension.

With only 120ishbhp, it's not mega quick, but enough to have fun with, and it sounds really nice too. I've not had much chance to drive it yet, but took it for a quick run yesterday with the roof off and managed to get rained on I'm hoping to get it out to a trackday before the end of the year to get a proper feel for it, but got a few minor issues to sort out first.

Ross' Se7en was anything but a shed - great wee car and whilst not exactly for me, the drive I got in it somewhere in Northumberland one weekend was quite an experience

Funny to see the title sponsor on there too, had forgotten about all the running about the country we did in support of "Team Scottish Elises"!

yeah didnt make it this year ...did 3 track days at knocky in both directions, and was hooked to that instead

to be honest i was a little concerned with taking the exige around the hillclimbs after doing forrestburn fun night as its alot narrower and no run off areas to speak off......knowing me i would prob come unstuck somewhere.....its a lot more intense and scary than track days IMO.

saying that i managed to damage two splitters at knocky, trying tooo hard!

Be good to see you back competing, you were one of the people that inspired me to take it up in the first place

Looking forward to joining A5 next year, I don't expect to be anywhere near Mac and Jonathan Neale though...
