Of course Jen, the problem is not the obvious benefit to you and many other dwellers of the region. It's either the tangible disruption to rural dwellers on or near the proposed route, both from construction and then from usage...or the broad-brush "green lobby" nonsense which always seems prepared to hold back economic development in the interests of a few bl**dy trees.

And in any case, it would shave a few mins off Tut's returns from his epic runs south, and that's got to be a good thing eh!!

Every other city in Scotland has some form of bypass in place now. Except the supposed engine room of our national wealth - Aberdeen.

Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth, Inverness, Glasgow, Stirling - you could not conceive of trying to cross through these today, without the relief routes in place. OK Glasgow is starting to splutter by having had to rely on the M8 as an arterial form of bypass, however the M74 link - also long protested - seems to have done the trick there too.

I'm afraid to say to these people that the opportunity to influence govt policy and personal choice towards efficient public transport methods has long since passed. In fact it's comical timing from that point of view with our dear capital city's frightening attempts at a modern mass transit project to replace an, er, very effective existing mass transit system.

I hope you are all ready for some Newbury Bypass style scenes of people camped in trees etc. Although I suspect rather more of these ones will have wine fridges in their treehouses, and their X5s parked underneath :damnfunny

No shock there then!!

From the local rag: http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/2425781

A LEGAL challenge to Aberdeen’s bypass will not be heard until the end of next year, the Evening Express can reveal today.
An appeal lodged by protest group RoadSense could mean the Aberdeen bypass now won’t be ready for action until 2019.
And today a call was made for an early court date – from both Aberdeen bypass supporters and objectors.

(one of) the interesting things is that, delay or not, these things usually go ahead. Whether it's a new council housing development (as next to me) or a massive project like this one which should have untold benefits for Aberdeen as a city. In the really long term, the city will no longer be able to rely on oil money and no big business is going to fill that gap in a city with such a poor road infrastructure.
I'd have been more inclined to positively engage in the planning and get it done quickly and efficiently. As it is, and in relation to the Aberdeen property thread, all those potentially 'affected' by it will struggle to realise their potential in their properties while this whole thing drags on and on leaving uncertainty.
The likelihood is that once it is built it won't be nearly as bad as feared and in 20 or 30 years time noone will remember when it wasn't there.

woo hoo
NEWS : The UK Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by Roadsense campaigner William Walton against the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.

He was arguing that the consultation process on the controversial bypass was illegal - but the country's most powerful court today rejected the challenge.

The decision paves the way for construction to begin on the multi-million pound project.

Will Aberdeen's Swampy make an appearance?

I think they would be either very brave or extremely stupid to make a publicised public appearance. By far the majority of people want this road and are sick and tired of Roadsense holding things up.
