Buying an Elise - any advice chap/chapettes?

Post by Muzzaa72 » Sat Oct 20, 2012 5:43 pm

Hi guys,

I'm a friend of Dom's and am going to take a trip down to view a couple of S1's at Lotus Racing near Bolton tomorrow. They have two B&C 140s for sale and this one has caught my eye in particular:

Any advice/tips regarding the model choice and/or dealer out there from some seasoned Lotus owners?

Cheers,
Murray

I have no constructive advice to offer but that looks clean & tidy. Hope you find yourself a good example :thumbsup

I like the look of the orange S1 they have and some nice history with it too (although I didn't see mileage mentioned)

Hi Murray!

You should find plenty of good advice on here (although the weekends can be a bit quiet).

Can anyone remember who the dodgy lotus dealer down south is? Is it these guys?

Cheers, I hope so too! The orange s1 would be a nice piece of lotus history to own but I would probably feel bad hillclimbing it! Also I think it is a little underpowered, based on the video linked to the advert!

There won't be much difference to driving the B&C140 and that orange car; in some respects the orange one is better for hillclimbing, though obviously that would destroy its value, unless you had a "name" driver of course.

It's pretty easy to get these up to 150BHP and you can do it when the head gasket fails (or sooner if you want the power earlier) :-)

What I'm saying is don't place much value on the 140 kit - pretend the car doesn't have it - if the price is still right then go for it.

BTW, on a T plate I would have expected that car to have the later wheels not the early S1 songs ... but I could be wrong.

Cheers,
Robin

Murray are you looking on seloc classifieds as well? There was a really nice blue s1 on there. Call me if you want a chat, it would take too long for me to type all the stuff....

I bought an S1 off Lotus Racing a couple of years ago, great service. Chris knows his stuff and only tends to stock the best examples, recommended.
