I'm about to buy a Bose companion 5 set. Hadn't thought of AMP3 so prompted by this thread I typed Bose into the search bar on the site and what came back was "Bag of crap" :damnfunny. Hoping its not!

Skip the Sonos 3's and stick to 5's. Not much more cost but lot more sound IMHO.

don't forget the SONOS Sub! Adding the Sub actually makes the Play3 or 5 drop the bass and concentrate on the mids and highs while the sub takes care of the bass, as the Play 3 or 5 have less range to deal with they actually play louder, epic addition to a SONOS set up, not cheap but great stuff.. Again Andy G or Shug are the folk to talk to :thumbsup

Bit of a thread hijack here but I am about to buy a Sonos system for my new house, at the moment I just want one play5 and I will be placing it beside my wireless router, does that mean with an Ethernet between them I will have Internet radio and spotify etc? Next question if (when) I buy another play5 do I need a bridge to link them or can they be linked by wifi?

Last question is my house is in Paris and everything here is stupidly expensive. If I was able to buy one in the UK when I'm back this weekend would it fit in a hand luggage sized suitcase/rucksack?

Hope someone can help.

Cheers

Not convinced the sub is worth it IMHO.

You only need one unit plugged into the router. The bridge only costs circa £35 now so worth buying one for the extra flexibility.

An s5 would fit in hand luggage if you took it out of the box. (Dimensions are 38cmx13cm).

HTH cheers ed :thumbsup

Sub is dependant on two things - your musical taste and size of room. If you're mental about bass (ie, you're the sort to buy Monster Beats headphones and don't actually give a monkeys about anything but bottom end!) then it's a cool add-on. But more logically, if you're sticking it in a massive room, Play 5 is awesome, but simply can't push as much air as a big set of floorstanders. In this situation, I'd have one, but agree for most domestic settings, it's overkill.

Sonos needs one of your units to be connected to your network / router....it will then connect the others itself. So you can either connect it via cat 5, or you can by a wireless bridge which gives you a bit more freedom.

From what you are saying you can just connect your play5 to your router, and thern if you add any more to the system then you just plug them within wireless range (basically anywhere in the house) and you're good to go within a few mins.

That helps, thanks. I found a reputable shop in Paris http://www.darty.com/nav/recherche?text=sonos selling the Sonos play5 for €399 which is around £320 or £360 with a bridge which seems a good deal. Think I'll just buy it here to save the hassle hand carrying it on the plane :thumbsup

I think I've fecked up

I bought a SONOS play5 and bridge last week and have just got round to setting it up, it works very well streaming radio, playing Spotify and the music stored on my external hard drive through my laptop... but I thought I would be able to stream the music from my iPhone and play it without my laptop being switched on, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Can someone please:
a) confirm if I am being a mong?
b) offer a way to steam my iPhone music to the SONOS without my laptop?
c) advise what other system I should buy that will do what I want? B&W Zeppelin with Airplay for example?

I think I have 10 days from now to return it to the shop, any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers :|
