Race battery

Post by jimbo » Mon Dec 03, 2012 3:56 pm

AA are on their way out to look at the S1 because yet another winter and yet another flat battery (that was 2 days of not running it, on a 12 month old battery!!)

In the event that I need a new one, I was thinking a while ago about getting the battery from the 340R, as I hear it's smaller and lighter. That true? Would it fit? Where could I get one locally?

Cheers

James

Sounds to me that there is something in your car draining the battery. In that case a smaller battery will go flat even faster.

If I were you, I'd be getting the car's electrics checked, and investing in one of these... http://www.eliseparts.com/products/show ... nditioner/

Yeah I was gonna look at putting it on some sort of permanent trickle charge in the garage to stop it happening again. If that stops any worry about fitting a smaller one, what about the 340R battery? AA are gonna have a good look over the electrics as a whole, but not sure that's the issue as it was in at the auto electricians last winter to have everything thoroughly checked over.

AA have been, battery is shagged. He reckons the battery is faulty. Checked it all over and nothing is draining it, alarm and immobiliser are drawing less than the internal light so should last a lot longer than 3 days!! Its such a pig of a job to change :'(

I don't think it is a 340r standard one you want as the 340r.net website talks about normal 340r battery is 11kg but a lightweight aftermarket one at 2.2kg.

Is it not more like this you should be looking at

Search for battery and the thread with this link appears.

Shouldn't be that bad. Takes a bit of manipulation to get it past the radiator shroud but beyond that it's straight forward. :)

Yeah I did it back in March, but I just remember skinned knuckles, swearing and a lack of space to manoeuvre anything

You are clearly a better man than me - or your S1 was build with a wide-boy front bay... I always spent at least half an hour yanking at the loom, the rad shroud and hauling at that frigging battery, swearing that my knees didn't bend the other way! Hellish job that I don't miss...

I was nearly reduced to tears when I did it and the bolts holding the retaining plate sheared. Had to dig out the dremmel. The day I got it back in and fired up remains one of the best days of Lotus ownership I've ever had! Sad eh

Must have been lucky with battery dimensions I suppose. The karmic balance of elise ownership has given me plenty of other nighmare jobs. :)
