FALC Hifi Problems

Post by martins » Wed Jan 02, 2013 1:42 pm

Happy New Year to all.

I have a problem with my KEF KHT PSW2010 Subwoofer. It no workie anymore...It just stopped working last night, for no apparent reason? There was someone who did not know what they were doing playing with the remote control for the sound system and the Sky box but have since checked everything (in terms of setup on the remotes) and all appears to be in order. I know there are some super techy hifi people on here so thought I should fly it by and see if anyone has any bright ideas.

I have an Onkyo TX-SR606 AV receiver, 5 KEF Surround KHT 2001 speakers and the PSW2010 subwoofer. All are around 4 years old. All have worked perfectly to date. They are not abused in any way but do get well used as this setup is connected to Sky box, blue ray player, ipod dock and Sonus system and is in the family room so is on every day.

The subwoofer is conneted to the Onkyo receiver via a dedicated subwoofer output. Single cable. The subwoofer output on the Onkyo box is switched 'on' in the Onkyo software.

How do I test to try and find out what part of the system is US? I do not realy want to buy a new subwoofer to find out the problem is the cable or the connection at the back of the Onkyo....

As an aside. I have some paperwork from KEF which states the hardware is covered by a 5 year guarantee but I do not know if this is the subwoofer or the surround speakers. On this point I may be scuppered anyway as I bought all of the goods online and have since had to shut down the email address used due to hackers so do not have a receipt. Again any advice accepted.

If the subwoofer is US anyone know where I might get it fixed in the Aberdeen area?

And finally. If the subwoofer is US and I cannot get it fixed, what should I replace it with? More of the same or in view of the fact I am building up on the Sonus kit should I move to wireless....

Sub is out of warranty - KEF warranty is 5years for speakers, 2 years for sub.

Take it in to Holburn Hifi any time i'm there (Sunday-Thursday) and i'll check to see if it's working for you FOC.
If it's the sub, we have a guy who can have a look at it and shoud be able to tell you what it'll cost to fix (you'll have to leave it for a few days). You can then choose to get it fixed or i can give you some advice in what to replace it with.

I fixed one just before xmas I could take a look if you want,it was the capacitor that went faulty on that one causing the relay to buzz.
Let me know

Just checked and I have the full circuit diagram for the sub so should be no issues getting it going,I used to repair hifi for shops and build my own but gave that up but still have bits and bobs so should be an easy fix.
Cheers
