I know the above S1 was probably not as highly spec'd as yours but this went last night for £7.6k...
I even got a begging phone call from someone today to swap my vectra for his S1 - the weather is getting them down me thinks!
Ask her if she wants a nice sensible Vectra!?!?

Mac - if you love the S1, give Mandy your S2 & chop the S1 in for an S1 S160 or the like.....

Nice thinking - but give Mandy my well sorted S2 to start again from scratch? It would need to be something really special that I bought - and I'd still need a good price for the S1 to finance it

It seems to me unlikely that it will cost you less than 3-4K to jump from S1 to S2. So spend about 2.5K to bring the S1 up to spec and swap cars. It will be cheaper I am sure.
In fact you can move the head from the S2 to the S1, though you need to do a bit of nuts and bolts conversion work on it. You'll need to put the standard S2 head back on the S2, then remove distributor blanking plate from S2 head and fit to S1. If while you have the S2 head off you do a gentle bit of porting on it, you'll have a 135R (especially if you can pick up a cheap alloy plenum from somewhere). In the first instance the MEMS will run the PTP head on an S1, certainly well enough to drive around town/motoway as the lambda will allow the MEMS to adjust fuelling. For 500-ish notes you can collect a shiny emerald and get it mapped to run the PTP head properly on the S1 (in fact if you ask PTP or emerald nicely I would lay money on them already having a map

).
I have a spare set of S1 wheels if you need a set for the track - so you can keep a set of Advans and a set of 48s if that's what you want.
Oh and if you want some spunkier suspension I have a set of dual-adjustable protechs which are probably for sale ...
All in all, spending your 2.5K will give you two excellent cars.
Just an idea!
Cheers,
Robin

I venture he loves his S2 too much to see it go, even to Mandy!
your calculation also fails to take into account the 1000s of man hours..... he'll need to practice driving in a real elise again!

I want a caterham.
S1 goes, Mandy takes S2 almost as is (quieten down the exhaust and return the seat belts) and I start looking for a roadsport A or similar.

I'm slowing myself down going round Kh as I know how much damage could be caused by a high speed off on an elise. Anything like taking a corner off or even a big enough bang on the wheel could write off the whole car.
Like some on here I have motorsport ambitions, whether it be race, speed or a combination of both and to do that I think the ideal car would be a caterham.
So, the master plan is to flog the car for as much as possible and then look for a caterham in the same bracket. I know I'm not going to be able to afford something like Gordon's but would happily take either one of the vauxhall or ford powered 160cc and then either do the engineering work required to transplant a K or drive it until such times that I have the cash to trade up.
Cheers

You've sat in one, yeah?
Not saying anything with this, but ignoring the weight, you are actually of big build anyway. Maybe the SV is the way to go - i'd never be able to drive properly crammed into something....

i struggle to fit in a caterham (the V8 was an SV) but i reckon you'd be ok mac, take the seat out and theres room at the hips. For me, the killer was the pedal box as i have size 11 feet and i struggled.

I sat in quite a few at the weekend there - it was during a conversation with Kevin that he suggested this route.
With the tillet there ain't much space and it's not comfortable, but with either the leather non bucket or the foam filled pollybag effort it's a comfortable enough.
The pedals are a little on the tight side but I think the trick is not to use the ball of my foot as I do now and use the toes more. That and I'm told it's quite often found that folk with bend the pedals to give a bit more clearance as there's a bit of space between the bulkhead and the clutch.
Plonked in Lawrences car at the weekend I could just about hit the throttle and clutch with no issues but seemed to be catching the throttle when left foot braking.
Cheers

Wise thoughts indeed, mac, and excellent advice from Kevin
Space shouldn't be an issue, I'm hardly what you could call sylph-like and fit quite snugly into the standard (S3) chassis in the Snot
Give tilletts a chance - they are very comfy indeed - Zeebrugge to Le Mans this summer in the pi$hin' rain with the mother of all hangovers brought no issues to me pain-wise
http://www.blatchat.com or some of the caterham racing / graduates sites have RSA & other ex-racers for sale, plus you need to get onto
